I started on this site about 3 years ago when Chloe was first diagnosed. Some members made me feel bad because I wasn't keeping to a tight schedule and giving the same dose all the time. When I finally found a good vet, she told me that some cats can never be regulated and she gave me guidelines for dosing. I saw the vet a few days ago because Chloe might be going into remission. She gave me the following guidelines: 0-100-no insulin; 101-299- give.5 unit; 300+ give 1 unit. I had to quit this site after a year because some members are OCD. Please keep in mind that all cats are different. I test twice daily before OR after food and Chloe is now heading towards remission. The vet who originally diagnosed her offered me the option of putting her down. She told me that cats with diabetes only live an average of 1.5 years. This site helped me a lot at first until a few members implied that I didn't care about my cat. That was about 2 years ago. Chloe has gained weight and is doing fine, thank you.
 
I’m not a big fan of making others feel bad and I believe it’s always in how you say things. I agree some members don’t have the best bedside manner or don’t realize how what they just said will make the other person feel. I’ve experienced that, but it’s not the majority. I have members here I completely trust and who I will tag when I need guidance. I also post on the forum I feel more comfortable with and get most encouragement from.

I’m sorry about your experience here and I agree that every cat is different, but I do also believe that what’s happened to Chloe is the exception not the rule. Insulin needs consistency. Diabetic cats need consistency. It would be irresponsible of folks here not to advise members to follow the dosage protocol because that is the best shot at remission.

@Roberta Kurtz This is a great forum for cats and people but you have to remember you're in the express lane at a walk-in clinic when you first get here. Some of the smartest and most dedicated people here give short and specific answers, then move on to the next problem. They're not being anti social, we all function differently. I already had one sugar cat when I joined and was on to my second so for me the tragedy was over. I hope you stay and over time you'll realize what looks like a bad bedside manner is just a product of someone's busy life.
I'm out of the loop on medical advice but you're right about no two cats being the same. My first was eager to be tested, had textbook numbers and even loved riding in the car. My second cat was a hot mess and we never got anywhere near regulation.

Thank you, Noah. I'm not really a newcomer to this site. I hadn't been on for so long, I guess my old account was deactivated. I don't mind short answers, but I did mind people saying that I didn't care about my cat and making me feel guilty. The site helped me immensely at the beginning when I was freaked out and I thank all the members who were understanding and gave me great advise.

This is cute and funny, but true. However, I truly believe that Chloe communicates with me. After all, she's half Siamese, and they are known to be vocal. She sleeps next to my pillow every night and likes me to bring her her food on the bed, although if she's really hungry, she'll get down and go in the kitchen. Sometimes, she poops on my pillow (like yesterday) or pees on the bed. I think she's trying to tell me to clean the kitty litter. If she's really pissed off, she pees ON me.
 
Years ago I left my two boys in the care of my idiot cousin for the weekend. I came home to empty water bowls and a single turd in the center of my pillow. Definitely a form of communication.
The cats flew with me when I moved and lived to 17 and 23. No one in my family knows or cares that my cousin disappeared 30 years ago. :oops:

I assume neither was diabetic at the time. I haven't spent a night away from home since Chloe was diagnosed.
 
My cousin was borderline sociopath, gives me the creeps just thinking about it. How I missed that for 30 years shows what a really good liar can do. :blackeye:
Think of Johnny Winter with short hair in a cheap suit and you get the idea. :(
