Been awhile since I have needed to post, thank god lol. Anyways, Bell had been seeing better numbers, then came the low amps numbers, which I still kept up her dose, then she got diarrhea on the 1/14, also had another cat that ended up with the diarrhea, with the numbers dipping lower at night, and the low preshot numbers in the morning I decided to lower her dose, I was exhausted from staying up and keeping check on her and cleaning diarrhea butts, and following the other cats to the litter box making sure the other cats didn’t get it to. Could her havjng the diarrhea been the cause of the lower numbers? I know the vetsulin isn’t the best insulin, but it finally seemed to start working for her. Her neuropathy has even started to get better, walking has improved wonderfully! Started the b-12 but stopped when the diarrhea hit to see if that was the cause, haven't started back yet, she and the other cat still on antibiotics, I guess what I’m asking is, any idea why she is now getting higher numbers? Raised her dose back to 2, been on it for 5 days, no improvement, only seen blues when I fed her the friskies salmon to try to give lower carbs, sorry for the long jump all over the place post, just thought I’d see if anyone had any advice/input before we go up to 2.25 tonight. Thanks in advance!

Hi Sharon,

What are they on the antibiotics for? Which antibiotic(s) are they receiving? Did the diarrhoea and appetite problems start before beginning the antibiotic treatment or after?

Mogs
.
The antibiotics and fortiflora(sorry forgot to mention that), are for the diarrhea, the antibiotic metronidazole, Bell the diabetic, didnt have an appetite problem, Boots the other cat did, antibiotics were started after, had diarrhea for a few days before we got to the vet, diarrhea cleared up second day after the meds, which was on 1/20, been off the fortiflora for 5 days, 1 dose of antibiotic tonight then done with that.

Antibiotics often CAUSE diarrhea. I guess he thought the cat had a bacterial infection. I would continue the fortiflora longer... its' a probiotic, although there are probiotics with higher counts out there, but some of my cats really like the taste. I'd go to 2.25 U. I hope he's feeling better soon.

Thanks! The diarrhea stopped the day after we started the antibiotic and fortiflora, they haven’t had any fortiflora since Sunday evening, I did go ahead and purchase a box from amazon to have on hand!! That was a horrible mess lol, not to even mention the trip to the vet, I was all prepared with my bag, pee pads, paper towels, clorox spray, baby wipes, garbage bags and febreeze!! Needless to say that got left at home hanging on the chair, of course we had a big mess by the time we got to the vet, but they both are feeling fine now, thanks!

Also another question, she has been yelping when she gets her shot, I told my husband I had read you could give it in the hip area in the pulled up skin, well he decided on his own to try that this morning without telling me first, he said she never made a peep, like she didn’t even get a shot, is this area ok to use? Didn’t seem to make a difference in her numbers today tho.
