Just gave Falafel her first dose of 0.5 Lantus at 8pm.

I am confused about "test, feed, shoot" with Lantus - I was reading on the forum that this can all be done in 15 minutes?

So, in the future, I have to give 2 hours with no food before testing, but then I can let her eat, and then shoot without a waiting period? (For Vetsulin I was waiting 30 minutes after eating.)

Once she has the shot, how long do I wait before I let her eat? I let her eat now (30 minutes post-shot) but my original plan was to wait until 10pm. Previously, she hadn't eaten since 6pm (but did not show signs of hunger).

(Also JFYI she is underweight right now - 7lbs when she is normally around 10 - so worried about her not getting enough food. I am confused about food timing in general still, despite reading many posts on the forum...)

Z with Lantus you test , feed and then shoot. You don't have to wait 30 minutes
Lantus usually doesn't kick in until @+2
Don't wait until 10:00 PM to feed her
If her ideal weight is 10 lbs

A good rule of thumb is 20x ideal weighweigh
So if her ideal weight is 10 lbs
10 x 20 = 200 calories
I pretty sure each can of FF pates are 99 calories per can
If she's hungry I would feed her a little more than that

Ok thank you! I am feeding her now.

So I just have to keep in mind the AMPS and PMPS needs to be taken when she hasn't eaten for 2 hours, and then after that it's ok to let her eat.

Does this schedule make sense (for 8am/8pm shot times):
AM:
1. Put away food at 6am.
2. 7:45am test, feed breakfast, shoot at 8am.
3. Leave food for lunch.
PM:
1. Put food away at 6pm.
2. 7:45pm test, feed dinner, shoot at 8pm.
3. Leave food for grazing.

(The most she will eat in one sitting is about 1/4-1/3 a can, and that's if she's ravenous. She really likes to graze!)
