Sorry it will be long, backstory and all so thank you in advance…

- dental surgery was on the 17 it went great
- 1 week checkup went great, vet took him off of antibiotics 3 days early in case it was causing him upset tummy(see next point)
- since surgery he hasn’t been eating like before, he normally woke me, hungry and ate a can for breakfast now he’s not waking me and only eating 1/4 then walking away
- thought it was just due to recovery but it’s still low appetite- I have to bribe him to eat (crush purebites into a dust then sprinkle on top)
- his numbers have slowly been improving, his wall of yellow now has loads of blues
- yesterday was curve day. At amps he didn’t want to eat, tried a different flavour ff but only nibbled a bit sprinkled the purebites and he ate enough to give his insulin.
- had a lovely 12 hr curve of blues, was 106 at pmps (lowest he went in curve) so stayed at 2.25U for pm dose
- jug threw up at +2 and then again at +4 (May have been more that I just never found as he goes in basement a lot)
-he went down to 67 so I lowered his am dose to 2U
- he still is eating but small amounts, he never used to leave food behind and now he does but eats enough to continue insulin
- he threw up again tonight at +2 ish
- other than the decreased appetite and the bouts of vomiting (he’s throwing up food, it’s not bile or foamy ) he seems fine. Alert, walking about the hose going to his fav sleep spots, going to bathroom etc and I’ve Been testing for keytones and all good.

I’m going to give vet a call in the am but anyone have any ideas what is up with my dude?

My first thought is pancreatitis. So many of his symptoms are what I experienced with my Taz. If it is, the earlier you can begin treatment, the better.

The vet must have done his labs before the dental to check if it was okay to go ahead, right? How were his kidney values?
Antibiotics can cause GI issues including lack of appetite, vomiting an diarrhea. Did he get a probiotic along with it?

Hi Bhooma,
Yes they tested before surgery, I googled what numbers were for kidney function
creatine was 1.4mg/dl
Bun was at 27mg/dl
they said all his numbers were in normal range (except glucose was high obviously)

No, sadly I didn’t know to give a probiotic and nothing was mentioned until his one week check up when the vet tech mentioned antibiotics can cause lack of appetite/tummy issues so they took him off of them a few days early

Yes, these are okay.

How long has he been off antibiotics?

What would you say is the frequency of his vomiting and is he throwing up a few hours after food? Is there a long gap betweem meals? Sometimes not eating for a long time can lead to acid build-up and that can cause vomiting as well.

his last day was March 24, he took them for 7 days.

That I know of he has vomited 3 times since yesterday. It started yesterday about 40 min after he ate after his pmps. I’m not sure about the last two as I didn’t see/hear, just found the vomit but to estimate they were within an hour or two of eating.
Is there a long gap between meals? Sometimes not eating for a long time can lead to acid build-up and that can cause vomiting as well.
since surgery there is almost always food in his dish (minus the 2hrs before amps/pmps) the amount I put out hasn’t changed he just isn’t eating it all like before so any gap in food intake his doing

How are his 5 P's? peeing, pooing, playing, preening, purring? Constipation can cause vomiting.

It wouldn't hurt to start a probiotic now if his tummy flora is still off.

5 p’s are good. What do you recommend for probiotic?

There are lots of human ones you could use. My vet recommended Natural Factors Protec. I've also see people use Renew Life. This page has more on probiotics.

Thanks for the link, I make yogurt in my InstantPot so maybe kefir would be a good option. Going to call vet now and see what they think
