I am sorry to see this, Monica, I know you must feel tearful and gutted... I think once the news has sunk in you might even feel that there is something positive here in that at least you know what you're dealing with, as you say. You can of course read up here (use the search box for others' posts) and elsewhere, and get a better understanding of the condition...that will help you feel more in control of what lies ahead.

There are many people here who can give you the benefit of their experiences of treating pancreatitis - I'd suggest starting a new thread with a specific subject line to get the right eyes.

Big hugs to you - you will get your head round this. And as usual, know you are among friends here who will give you their very best advice...

Thank you Diana!

Monica did your vet do the snap test for pancreatitis or did they send it out and get a reading? A snap test will just say yes or no, while the fPL test will give an actual reading. Pancreatitis can be either acute or chronic.

It was a blood test sent off to the lab, she didn't say which one it was but I asked her to forward me the lab results in an email so hopefully will know more soon,

If it was sent to an outside lab then it would have been the fPL test which gives an actual reading. The snap test which is done in the vet's office just gives a yes or no result, but doesn't say how bad it is according to reference numbers. My Tuxie (GA) had chronic pancreatitis and had fPL results so high they were off the charts. His high readings were largely due to another condition he had in addition to the diabetes. But he lived reasonably comfortably for 2 1/2 years after the FD and chronic pancreatitis diagnosis, with luckily only a few flare-ups that required meds.

As Diana said it would be a good idea to start a separate posting on the Health forum with a title something like "Diagnosed with pancreatitis need information on treatments" or something like that. There are MANY people on this forum that have dealt with pancreatic issues and their information and insight can be invaluable to helping you with your kitty.

Program the autofeeder to rotate to an empty slot 2 hours before PreShot tests!!
Just wanted to come back and say thank you for the rotating feeder and empty slot idea @Kris & Teasel and @Chris & China , we did invest in a poncy five slot rotating feeder and it's been brilliant! Also doing the 5am empty slots so I get to sleep through the night without worrying or having to come down to take away the food left out at 4pm. Genius solution, again big thank you from me and Josie kitty!:cat:
