Comparison: AT2 vs FSL

Good morning.

Hope I'm in the right forum place to post this.

I've used both AT2 and FSL on Mikan for 8 cycles, a total of 34 readings. I compiled the data here in my SS.

Briefly, the general trend is that the higher the BG is, the greater the differences.

If AT2 is >400mg/dL, 164 point difference on average (range 127-185)
If AT2 is 300-399mg/dL, 121 point difference on average (range 86-164)
If AT2 is 200-299mg/dL, 74 point difference on average (range 44-129)
If AT2 is under 200mg/dL, 47 point difference on average (range 17-75)

I was hoping to see if there is any way one can predict the number from one meter to the other :). But as @Bandit's Mom wisely warned me, it was a futile effort :p There is no conversion rules I could come up with, just a general guestimate. Well, it was interesting and good exercise ;););)

Interesting control test!! I took my human meter to the Vet Friday to see the difference between the Labs they sent out for comparison. On the human meter he was 221, the lab test showed 272. So, very close to 20% variance...

I used the AT2 with my last diabetic kitty, only because he was insured, so they paid up to 90% of all his diabetic supplies.

Its so much less expensive for the human test strips, the AT2 are just ridiculous!

So interesting that there was 20% variance between your human meter and the lab number! It's one of those things, it seems to me, that one cannot get a pinpoint estimate from one to the other, but we can kind of get a heuristic guestimate :joyful:.

You are so right about the price of the AT2 strips! And human meter strips are more available too! AT2 will soon be discontinued and people will have to buy a whole new set if they want to continue using a pet meter. Is it me o_O but it feels like a sinister marketing plot....

It is a sinister plot!! All part of Big Pharma!! Anything to make a buck off the emotions and naivety of diabetic pet owners!!

What a rip-off! I got 300 Genteel Butterfly Touch Lancets for $29.50 recently. I like those. :cat:

Four years - such a long time! You are such a good kitty mom! But it's sad that the profit machine goes after a caring heart....

It is sad. Yes my last sugar cat was diabetic for 4 years, and it wasn't diabetes that took him. He had a colon mass.

My sugar cat now, Sly was DX'd this January.

If anyone told me I'd have a second diabetic cat, I would have laughed at them, yet here we are!!:bighug:

So sorry to hear about your last sugar kitty. There is no word for the loss, really. Every time I lose one, a part of me goes with the kitty. Just so sad, but I can tell you that the kitty was lucky to have you as its mom!

Sly is also so lucky to have you :). My Mikan was diagnosed in Jan this year as well - such a big surprise as she is young, healthy, and skinny! I've had many cats in my life, but she is the first sugar kitty. I love her so so much that I hope I can get her through this to be better regulated! This forum has been a godsend - learned so much, and it is nice not to feel so alone!

You will get her regulated! This is a great place to be, I wish I utilized the board more with my first sugar kitty, he had so many issues outside of the diabetes, and was on alot of medicine the last 2 years.

I feel the same every time I lose one. Like a little piece of me dies with them, and we change, life changes. Its hard, but I have so many, that I have to keep going, life is for the living, and we carry the others in our hearts until we are all together in the end. :bighug:
