Hi, my name is Alexa, my kitty is Reuben (siamese,15). We just started night before last with insulin, he has trace ketones, and pancreatitis, and I just gave a fur shot after a day of high numbers ending with over 500. I am distraught! I read that I can`t reshoot because I don`t know if any went in him. I`m so upset...

I feel for you. I hate furrshots.

You never know if you got a little in or none at all and you don't want to accidentally overdose your furrbaby.
That would be even worse.

You've the exact answer "can`t reshoot because I don`t know if any went in him". To make you feel better, Alexa, think of it as you've got some insulin in. Still better than none. A week ago, no testing, no insulin Reuben was managing himself. Now you've started the treatment, things will be better. Nobody's perfect. Learn from it & improve. Hugs!
The second shot is just a few hrs away.

thank you tortie58 from hong kong! i appreciate your kind words so much... yes you are right, he will survive the night  and yes, even with this mistake we are in better shape than a week ago. thanks again!

After many years here, sometimes I give a fur shot-Dont beat yourself up. Some insulin may have gone in, so never reshoot, just wait till next shot..It is hard to give your baby an injection in the beginning..Just know you are doing the very best for Rueben, and he will be getting better now..You are doing well for the beginning..Better than I did--But Rueben will understand that the shots are helping him soon and it will become easier for you--Just try to be relaxed, as cats pick up our anxiety..Try to have a good day!

How about a hug? ((Reuben's Mom))
No matter how long we have been doing this dance, we all do a fur shot once in awhile. It is a pretty sickening feeling....at least it is for me. And the hours drag by until the time for the next shot.
But, as Roni said...you do not shoot again because we never know IF anything went it.....

Things take time to get used to....so gald you are here ...Welcome to you and Reuben!

Thank you so much for your warm welcome and support, Pat *hug*

I appreciate sooo much!

Ah...the dreaded fur shots! You're not alone, that's for sure.

The funniest one that I gave was pretty soon after I had started injecting Pumbaa. I had him all ready to shoot, put the needle in, and was just starting to depress the plunger when my dog let out a huge "bark" right next to me, causing me to jump and pull the needle out. The chance of that happening again? Probably nil. *LOL*

Welcome Alexa and extra sweet Reuben!

Yeah fur shots stink...but we all do them sometimes. It really is irksome when they've got a high number which is when I seem to do it.

BIG HUG! You're doing great!

Drat on the fur shot. cat(2)_steam You'll giving the next shot soon and Reuben will get right back on track. You can either change your screen name or put your name in your signature. It would also be good to do a profile. The instructions are here.
