About the spreadsheet, I'm using an iPad and I open it in Google Sheets. It is letting me open it now, it's just that the top half is gone. I'm sure what happened was when I tried to add the missing column I added it in the wrong place and when I cleared that one out I accidentally cleared half the sheet too. The squares in that half are really small now and line 4 is all but gone-not sure what to do about that-but since the bottom half is working, I can add the numbers today while I try to figure it out.

(Sharon, I think it's possible that it may take a cycle or two to see a significant difference - just like with any dose change.)

+10 496 ugh But he really is acting better than he has. He wants to go out, he's using the scratching pads etc. he hasn't been doing those things, so I'm going to try to keep that as a positive. Thanks for the cheers Bobbie. I know you're going through some strange numbers too. Hope you get it all straightened out soon!
 
Give it a couple cycles, Sharon. And remember this...this dose will help. Even if the help it gives is to tell us that less insulin is NOT the answer...but a possible high dose condition. The point is, we'll get some answers this way. :)

I know that looks awful to you ... But take heart: Look at the significant drop he had between +2 and +6; there's a positive sign.:) May take a few days before you see a significant drop in Colin's numbers (just remember how long he's been on a high dose here). And if you don't happen to see a shift within 2 to 3 days from the time you reduced the dose, at least - as Rachel said above - we'll have some answers this way. So hang in there, Sharon.

Even though you saw that high PMPS, you'll still want to check him - at least, I would think, around +5 to +7 range tonight - to see how he's doing.:bighug:
 
Thanks Rachel and Robin. I know I have to be patient, it's just so hard (as I'm sure you know!). I really think he felt better today though, he even went with me to feed the chickens this evening. He hasn't done that in a long time. So I will get a reading tonight and a few tomorrow. I have company coming, but they won't get here until 1PM, so I can get a few readings before that. Thanks again!
 
Hi everyone, since you've been so helpful and obviously knowledgable, I thought I'd ask this question here instead of the health forum. I've decided to take Colin in to see if he needs a dental. I'm taking him to the vet that diagnosed him, rather than the one who's been treating him. I think it'll be less stressful for him for several reasons-she's a 5 min. drive away vs 30 min., since it's a small clinic there's not so much commotion, he actually likes her and I think just going to the clinic where he's been getting the curves done would be too stressful. My question is, is there anything special about doing a dental on a cat with Diabetes? This vet is only there part time while she raises her kids, and while I wouldn't hesitate to bring any of my cats or horses to her for routine things, I usually go elsewhere for a more serious diagnosis. She knows this and is OK with it, and is willing to talk about treatments, etc. I'll add that I'm terrified of anesthesia both for me and my animals, which is why I put things like this off. Thanks again.
 
I never took my sugar cat in for a dental, but I've heard that often, they want them fasting beforehand. A lot of people therefore give half the insulin beforehand since they aren't having breakfast. But I wouldn't take my word for it. :) Did the vet mention fasting?

I was wondering about that myself. I am calling my vet tomorrow to set up an appointment for a cleaning. I'm thinking he could have dental infections keeping his numbers from coming down more. Not sure how they will handle that.
 
I will be taking Bat-Bat in for a dental on 9/15, hoping that this will help lower her #s further & push her beyond "teetering on the edge" of remission, which is where we're stuck now ...
I was told no food after 10 pm the night before, but that water is ok. I can't speak to the insulin dose-or-not aspect, though - as she's only on a tiny "as needed" dose now, so the vet just told me to skip it on the morning of dental cleaning day.

I'm calling the vet tomorrow and get it set up. I hope they will accept Bubba's lab test from his 5.29.15 diabetic DX, otherwise ka ching kaching...
 
Hey y'all, can someone look at Colin's SS? He's still high, but seems to be starting to come down a bit (don't want to jinx it, but haven't seen a 500 since Sun. (Sorry I haven't fixed the SS, haven't figured it out yet. I think it would be easier to start over.) Anyway, I've been putting down 2.5 as the dose, but I think it may be closer to 2.75 or even 3 because it's hard to seen on theses syringes. I ordered new ones yesterday that have 1/2 marks. Thanks
 
Hmmm...he DOES seem to be coming down some...this morning's AMPS is one of the lowest you've seen in a bit. Honestly, Sharon, I'm not sure what's up. It could be that Colin needed a few days to adjust to a lower dose and now that he has, his numbers are headed correctly down. It does feel like a good thing (anti jinx!). I'd be interested to see his nadir today...keeping fingers and paws crossed!
 
Regarding dental; my vet told me not to give any food after midnight but water was ok. He also asked that there would be no insulin shot in the am however I have heard from others that their vet told them 1/2 the insulin was okay. All the pets would come in by 8am and he would do the cats that had illnesses first i.e. diabetes first and then healthier ones last. I would ask if your cat would be the first one. Also, make sure that they do not use Covenia, a long lasting antibiotic, and Metacam (painkiller). These meds are not good for cats. Before the surgery, they will start them on an IV drip and I think my vet also used gas during the surgery so Merlin would have an easier time waking up and in recovery.
 
He's been acting much more like himself. He even slept with me last night, he hasn't really done that since before Dx. Today though, he seems tired and hungry again and the numbers are showing it. +5.5 401 and +7.5 420
 
Colin seems to be constipated. I noticed it a bit yesterday, but then he had a normal bowel movement, so I didn't worry. Now he's straining again. Any ideas?
 
Sometimes pumpkin helps - not pie filling but pumpkin. Some people use Metimusil and some use FortiFlora. Constipation can raise big levels

He finally went. Took awhile though. he went from box to box finally wanted to go outside, so I let him and followed him around the yard. How much pumpkin?
 
Thanks Sue. While you're here, you said earlier maybe a decrease in insulin, but that was before today's high numbers. What do you think now? He was 459 PMPS
 
I would try it for one cycle - maybe one unit and see if things change. My thinking is that maybe the 2.5 is still too much. Although if he was constipated, that might account for the higher numbers today. Maybe give 2.5 one cycle and then try one unit one cycle. If nothing changes, then I was wrong and go back up.
 
For constipation, I use Miralax. You wouldn't want to give it to them if he can't go but once he is going, 1/8 tsp two times a day sometimes helps them get regular again.
 
Cindi, I'm Still having problems with my spreadsheet, and just saw Sues post in my other thread about how to let you try to fix it. Problem may be that it says Sue is the owner and I'm allowed to edit, so she may have to give you permission. Is that right? It may just be easier to start over, but i haven't figured that one out yet either! I am technologically challenged! Thanks

I looked at it. I added some lines at the top in case you'd want to go back and add some old numbers, Sharon. I can get rid of those or add some more. But unless Cindi has a rabbit to pull out of her hat, I don't know how to recover the lost data. I tried Undo, Cindi, but no luck. Unfortunately it updates automatically - a great feature if you are posting and want the SS updated but I think it means there is no "original" copy anywhere. Is that right, Cindi? @Merlin
 
Ok - really simple to get back the data. At the top of the spreadsheet in the middle there is a line stating: All changes saved in Drive. Click on that. Your spreadsheet will turn shades of grey. At the right, there is a list of saves by date. Click on the date that you think you lost the data. That box will expand and indicate a button to restore. Click on that button. It will restore to that date however you will loose the data that you have entered since that date of loss data. So you will want to print your spreadsheet out first so you can re-enter your data. Does that make sense?
 
Oh I just thought of something, you can print off your ss as a backup but before you restore, you can copy all your cells that you have since updated and once you have restored, you can paste those cells on to your newly restored ss. I would be happy to work with it if you still want me to. Just let me know.
 
Nothing makes sense to me!:woot: I have been keeping a handwritten spreadsheet here, so I have all the data plus a few more numbers from earlier. Printer isn't working. Will try to get some ink in a few days. Just looked at sheet are there enough columns going across the top AM? The +1,+2 etc. I think that's how I deleted everything was trying to add a column, that I had probably accidentally deleted!:banghead: In my defense, I'm on an iPad and every time I touch the screen, something pops up or goes away... Thanks for all your help!!!
 
Ok - no problem. I just sent my email address to Sue. Can you tell me what date you think you lost that column?
 
From combing back through the threads, it looks like Fri Aug 28 is when I lost the column and later the same night lost the top stuff trying to get the column back!

My vet today told me for Bubba's upcoming dental that the morning of, I can give Bubba 1/2 his normal food amount and 1/2 the insulin and they will schedule his cleaning for the later afternoon.
 
Thanks for that info. I haven't had the guts to even call for an appointment. One of the things that worries me, besides the anesthesia, is no food in AM. Colin is so hungry and since I get up at five AM, that's a lot of time to have to look into those hungry eyes...
 
I understand what you are saying about the hungry eyes. It is 4;30 pm EST right now and Bubba should be surfacing any time now to sit upon his buffet table for approx. 1 1/2 hours until it is time for me to test PMPS and feed and shoot. Hopefully the Convenia injection doesn't cause any reactions to have him not be his usual Bubba self.
 
If only Colin would just sit, he follows me around crying. The others have to wait to eat too, so I have multiple sets of hungry eyes. I generally escape to the barn to feed the horses.

I read on your other post about the Convenia shot. I hadn't heard of it before. What are the potential side effects?
 
Hi Sharon, I have put a link here for you to look at. I wish I had had my Bubba folder with me at the vets and then I would have seen that I made a note that is was potentially dangerous. We have two cats and two dogs and if I have to stall for Bubba the whole gang gets delayed so I know what you mean about the hungry eyes. I don't have horses but, I do have a barn I could escape to also. HA! Also, for pain killer Metcam is potentially dangerous.

Wow, Bobbie, scary. Before I got this link from you I was talking to a friend and asked her about it. She had two cats that got the Convenia shots both are fine-no reactions at all. So be vigilant, but relax. :bighug:

Thanks Sharon. I am much better about it now. The is no reason for me to stress about something that I can't do anything to undo. You are right, I just need to be vigilant.
