Clide had his glucose curve last Wednesday, 12/28. He was consistently in the low 300's throughout the day. I agreed with my vet that I would knock dry food out of his diet and switch him to a very low carb, high quality wet food. My choice was Merrick Cowboy Cookout. He's been on that - one can a day (plus a "snack" of Fancy Feast Classic Turkey & Giblets here and there) - for a solid week. He went for a mutli-purpose re-check today. The GREAT news was that his BG was 187!! Woo hoo!
The cautionary news has to do with his mouth. I rescued Clide from a high kill shelter where his "family" surrendered him a year ago at age 14. At the time, he had a mouth full of rotten, painful teeth. He had all but two teeth - one fang, one molar - removed this time last year. He has feline stomatitis, and his mouth flares up from time to time. Today at recheck they saw a growth in his mouth. Could be nothing but more inflammation since we are treating a flare up currently. But, it's worrisome. The plan has always been to start him on cyclosporine (Atopica) to help with his mouth. So, we're going to do that (the meds should arrive any day) and watch that growth. If it doesn't improve or (God forbid) gets worse, we're going to need to biopsy it.
So, good news on the FD front. Prayers, thoughts, great karma for this mouth issue resolving as nothing too serious would be appreciated!
