Clean bill of health...except for the BG

Leo received a clean bill of health today, with the exception of his BG being elevated. He was around 350 at the vet's office but that was expected. His white count was not elevated, and showed no other signs of infection that could cause the jump in his sugars. The vet said his heart sounded good, his kidneys felt good, so those are things to be thankful for.

I held off on giving him a dose tonight-by the time I was home and tested him (we used our last strip this morning so I had to restock!) he was down to 228 on his own. So I'm playing it conservative...we'll see how he looks in the morning. Since BF's shop is where we live, he's there and can test all day. I was thinking if he's still around that level in the morning, I can give a quarter or half unit and see how he reacts-he was very sensitive to insulin last time, and I don't want to drop him too far, too fast. Thoughts?

I think either .25 or .5 should be okay on a number over 200 - as long as you are sure he is headed up and you can monitor. Whichever you are more comfortable with. It's like that first week of insulin. You can't be sure how he will react, so start low and go slow.

No chance he is getting into some dry food somewhere?

We started off this morning with .25 u. AMPS was 237, so we will see how the day goes.

Negative on the dry food-Leo is an only child, and we haven't had any in the house since he was first diagnosed. He had no problem transitioning to wet food, so I didn't see any reason to keep any around. The thing I really have to watch is when I bake-he will devour any smidge of frosting that gets thrown from the mixer. But I haven't baked anything recently, either. So, we're not really sure exactly why this happened.

Checked out your spreadsheet. Looks like he is coming down! You may have to chase the numbers - monitoring until he goes above your target (maybe 180 - 200) and then shooting, even if it is longer than the 12/12 schedule.

I does look like it. Yesterday's PM shot was a partial fur shot-he flinched at the last moment so his post-PM numbers were a little flat. I haven't put AMPS today into his SS yet, but he's still right around the 200 mark for a good chunk of his PS values. Tomorrow is curve day, so I'm stocking up on chicken thighs tonight!
