I have some odansetron injectable I'd gotten for Hank before he passed away. His prescribed dose was 0.3ml sub-Q b.i.d. I have my old 3/10cc U100 insulin syringes and some 1/2cc U100 i picked up at that time.
This was months ago and I am rusty. I found a note I wrote with the syringes that says to draw dose to the 30 line in both...but that can't be right? ...the barrel is larger on one than the other.

I may give some to my civvie who has stomach sensitivity issues, and has been having a rough time and throwing up for a couple days. I think his weight may be slightly less than Hank's at the time, maybe by 1.5 lbs or so.
I am trying to figure out if I should give the same dose? ..but also want to clarify where to fill to on these syringes to get the correct dose. I obviously wrote something down wrong as it can't be the same on 2 different size syringes....I was in a fog that whole time.

I'm pretty sure your 1/2cc U100 syringes will hold a maximum of 50 units, where you're 1/3cc U100 syringes only hold a max of 30...when you pull up to the 30 unit mark, it's going to be the same 30 unit "dose"....that may be what your vet meant

I asked the IM to prescribe this (she normally uses anzamet). It was the pharmacist I asked, since I had 1/2 box of hanks old insulin syringes.
But I went ahead and bought a few of the 1/2cc u100's also. And yes they do go to 50U vs the 3/10cc which go only to 30... BUT the barrel is also larger around. I did make notes but I think I must have not translated correctly....I was not myself. And it's been so long now I can't recall anymore what I did at the time.
But I don't see how the 30 can be the same dose if one syringe has a larger barrel than the other (not just longer..but larger around)???
What would 0.3 translate to in either of those syringes?

Does that dose seem ok if my civvie's weight is slightly less than Hank was at the time?

I know it's a very safe drug and when we give it to our cats by mouth, we don't make a big deal out of their weight, so I'd think the dose would be OK...however, I don't know for 100% sure

The reason the barrel is "wider" on the 1/2cc syringe is because that syringe must hold 50 units instead of only 30...they can't make the syringes a lot longer, so they make the barrel bigger around

I really think you need to talk to a vet, Betty. Whether it's a safe drug or not, it should be properly dosed for your other kitty by a vet.

Sending him healing vines.
