Clarence and constipation?

Hello to all,

Clarence's BG is doing well on day 11 of his OTJ trial, but I have a new concern. Since switching from his pre-diabetic diet of dry science diet kibble and some canned food once per night (various brands) to his 100% Fancy Feast wet diet his bowel movements have been only about once per day and they have been fairly small and pretty dry looking. My real concern however is that, as of right now he has not had a bowel movement in well over 24 hours.

Should this be a concern at this point? What are the remedies? I have heard pumpkin is a good prevention, but probably not a good way to get out what is already built up. Is pumpkin safe for diebetic cats? Is it not a source of carbohydrates?

Many thanks and kind regards,
Ty and Clarence

I second adding water to the food, as much as he'll tolerate. I mix about a half-can of water for every full can of food with my two guys and make it into a mush.

Pumpkin is great for both diarrhea and constipation, just make sure it's plain pumpkin and doesn't contain any spices. It shouldn't impact the BGs too much (if at all) because you're feeding such a small amount.

When I checked his box an hour after my original post there was a small stool in the box. It seems as tho these are the new norm with the new (healthier) diet. For now I think I will just add water to his food and see what happens. If it seems like he needs more fiber then I will introduce some pumpkin to his diet.
