Civvies at the vet...breathing problems

Well my Tigress is at the vet. She kept going to the litter box (and the laundry pile) this AM...crouching...and nothing happened. Vet couldn't get urine because her bladder was so small but said it was probably a UTI. She said the symptoms were right and her bladder being small was another sign.

She also said that her breathing was labored. Said she was panting. They're found an X-ray to make sure all is well. She did say her glucose was 220 so she's not diabetic. High number but you know...sick and at the vet, it's going to be high.

Send healing vines please. I'm really worried (of course). I'm hoping it was something small and she'll be fine.
 
UTI. Not surprising.

She said her heart looks strange . They're sending it out to be looked at by a radiologist. She said it may be nothing but they want to be sure.

So I'm concerned. I need this to be nothing serious. We just lost Gypsy. I'm still paying her medical bulls (and will be for awhile). Now another $500 today and if she needs more tests...I'm not unfeeling I swear. I am concerned for her. I'm just concerned about money too.

Sometimes an infection in one area can travel via the bloodstream to another area, such as the heart. Fingers crossed that all works out happily.
 
Thank you all. I think the antibiotics are working. She's still straining to pee but has squeezed a little out. She's just finished bathing herself and is asleep on my lap.

They said her heart walls seemed thick. Sent X-ray to radiologist. Going to call me tomorrow when they hear. Said she may need an echocardiogram. I hope not...no idea how to pay for it. Anyway, they said the concern there is blood clots. Anyone have experience with this? Thickening heart walls, etc?

She said the UTI might be due to diet. I've been feeding special diet friskies...turkey and giblets, beef and chicken. I add water. Any suggestions? She touted royal canin of course. Love my vet but she isn't up on diet. Anyone have food thoughts for urinary issues?
 
Rachel ~ I'm sending prayers your way. My civie, Chappy, started "spraying" the walls about 2 weeks after I switched the gang to Wellness Core canned food. The vet put him on Amoxy (16 days) and Doxy (8 days) for a UTI. Chappy was still backing up to the walls (although nothing was coming out) and was urinating very little in the litter box. Another vet did an x-ray yesterday and didn't find any crystals in his bladder, although she mentioned that his bladder was small. She believes it is behavioral (although I'm inclined to disagree). She wasn't able to get a urine sample and didn't draw blood, which surprised me. (I may have burned my bridge with this vet by switching my sugar cat to a different vet.) I haven't noticed any breathing difficulties with Chappy - just the urinary issues Anyway....I just wanted to let you know my recent experience in case it helps you in any way.

Thickening of the heart walls is hypertrophy (a fancy way of saying the same thing).
This stiffness makes it harder for the heart muscle to contract.
Blood flow slows down.
Slow blood may clot more easily.
Clots can cause blockages anywhere in the body.

An option is to ask the vet if you can treat empirically, i.e., without doing the test. The risk is that you treat the wrong thing and cause another problem.
 
I'll find a way to pay if needed. She's my girl. I'll figure it out. Thanks for the info BJ. You always know how to help!
