Our civvie cat spaz is not doing well. She's so thin & now she won't eat more then a few licks at the baby food :(

Last night she started breathing hard after coming up the stairs. I have an appointment for her at the vet on Thursday.

I suspect she has hypothyroidism along with possible kidney problems & now with her funny breathing I'm also starting to suspect congestive heart failure.

Any idea how I can get her to eat more? I tried the usual like flortiflora, Parmesan cheese, heating up her foid, gravy foods, sprinkling treats on her food, baby food & even sardines in tomayoe sauce which is her favourite but she will only take a few bites & walk away :(

What about an appetite stimulant? Other than that, I don't have any ideas other than what you have already tried, but I will keep her in my prayers, and you, too. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

you may want to syringe in a bit of food. last thing you need is a fatty liver on top of whatever else is ailing her.

If she is not eating due to nausea 1/4 pepcid AC can help. It helps my IBD kitty and also helped my previous CRF kitty. Not as good as a prescription med from the vet but it can help with acidy build up in the stomach if that's what might be causing the inappetence.

It's unlikely Spaz has hypothyroidism, unless she's had i131 treatments as it rarely happens in cats. If she has CHF, that can cause inappetance. If that is treated her appetite can come back. Is she showing signs of nausea? Cerenia and/or ondansetron may help if she's nauseous.

If you suspect CHF, you might want to count her resting respiration rate (RR). When she is sleeping or resting, count the total number of in and out breaths in a minute. I used the timer on my phone. Ideally it should be less than 30. The vet will count the respiration rate at the clinic, but it can go up quite a bit with stress so it's good to have a count at home.

I took spaz to the vet this afternoon. Unfortunately she passed away at the vets office while they were getting ready to do an X-ray :(

Her breathing got worse overnight & she was so stressed when we got to the vets office they immediately put her on oxygen. The dr suspected feline asthma & was going to do an X-ray to see what was going on. Spaz took a turn for the worse & I got called in to be with her. I just got to her side & she took her last breath.

We are heartbroken we lost such an awesome kitty yet happy she's not suffering. She's being cremated & we are getting her paw print. The only comfort I have in her passing is believing Spaz is now with Vegetable & Paws.

{{{Jennifer}}} I am so sorry it was Spaz's time to go. She was such a pretty kitty, obviously well loved. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Fly free Spaz, your friends will be there to greet you. cat_wings>o

It's hard losing our fur kids, and Spaz has left so soon after Vegetable. Spaz was such a pretty kitty. Hugs to you on your loss.

Fly free sweet Spaz, and may you land softly at the bridge.cat_wings>o

I am so so sorry to see that Spaz has crossed the Bridge. Too much loss too close together.

Spaz and Vegetable are together again, but I know your heart is broken and aching.
