So its been a week and my civvies drooling had got little better until yesterday when it suddenly got a lot worse. I had a look in her mouth under her tongue and saw the laceration had turned nasty brown and yellow so we went back to the vet for our recheck a week early and he took a look. Now its infected (why the specialist didn't give us ABs i don't know).
Anyway the vet proceeded to give her a shot of Convenia (oops) and told us to keep an eye on her for the next week to see if it clears up.
He still isn't convinced it wasn't cancer that got inflamed, split and got infected (who knew it did that??) so now I am worried again but for now she is behaving normally - all 5Ps in place and she is sitting next to me right now - vet trip has been forgiven
