Good morning my friends of FDMB!!!! ~O) ~O) It's been about 9 months since I've been able to get back on.........Sabrina, my sugarkitty, is doing well on her Lantus.....no complaints but getting a little too chubby :o :?: My other cat, Emma, was just diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at the age of 17 years. The vet is putting her on a med 2x's a day. As far as her diet & care of her, would someone be able to give me guidance on food requirements & other things I might have to look out for? Later this afternoon I have to pick up the med plus I'm going to request a copy of her senior panel. I'll post these later today. Thank you, Cindy & Sabrina + Emma cat_pet_icon

Here are some of my experiences with my hypet-T kitty.

No special food needed.

The hardest part for my hyperthyroid civie Libby was getting her to eat enough to maintain her weight.

We used the methimazole transdermal gel as she had other issues making it tough to pill her.

More frequent blood tests needed to adjust the thyroid meds dose if needed.

Watch out for heart issues which can be exacerbated by the thyroid meds.

There is a Feline hyper-T (Hypo-T) group on Yahoo. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/feline-hyperT/info

Thanks for the info Deb  Emma wasn't herself & the symptoms presented were loss of weight, agitated, very vocal, & extremely high heart rate.....I'll watch for the heart disease nailbite_smile Cindy & sabrina cat_pet_icon
