Can anyone please provide some basics on Cisapride? (or is it Ciprocide?)

What it's used for, how much, how often, what kinds of results to expect, and how soon to see results?

Thanks in advance,
Lu-Ann

Cisapride is used to help colon muscles contract. You might want to PM Ann & Maggie11 - Ann was using it for megacolon for her Maggie. One of our shelter kitties who had a crushed back end was also getting to help move things along.

Scritches to Grayson.

My cat Misty gets 1ml twice a day for chronic constipation. It helps move her poop out because she struggles doing it on her own. She gets it along with Lactulose which is a stool softener. When she started it I think it started helping the very first day I gave it to her. Her vet suggested it because the Lactulose wasn't working on it's own. If I miss a dose or she doesn't eat it she gets blocked. You have to get it from a compounding pharmacy. It can come in various forms, liquid, chews, pills. It was banned for human use for various reasons but is said to be ok for felines. Pretty sure Misty couldn't live without it.

Grayson is fine - thanks to a steady input of Miralax - thank you all for responding and inquiring! I actually had someone who's not here or on the Acro board ask me, and I wasn't familiar with it. I was thinking the health page was viewable without logging in, but she said she couldn't access it.

G continues to do the dance, mostly the cha cha... 3 steps forward, 1 step back! We've been reducing since January (though he's still at mega doses), but his faithful ear infection continues to show up from time to time, as does (presumably) P'titus, so we're up & down. We continue to treat with daily ear drops, occasional fluids, and a number of other meds... Miralax, Zobaline & Thyrosin (post-SRT hypo-thyroid) for the boy that initially ONLY took insulin shots!

We're just over a year post-SRT, and his dose has dropped as much as 75% from his max. He's no longer anorexic-looking, fitting into his 24# suit these days. :o No IBD problems. The Miralax keeps his Mega-colon in check. Food intake is down from 12 cans FF/day to about 5. When he stays in the blues and greens, he keeps mom REALLY REALLY happy. He's been hitting the IHOP a little more frequently these days, but like some of our other acro friends, they seem to go up & down as the tumor sputters or the phase of the moon changes. His good numbers completely affect MY day too! No surprise there.

Thanks again for the input - I'll share with her and maybe she'll come by.

Scritches to everyone!

Lu-Ann
