For all those wonderful people that gave me advice and good wishes yesterday, I just wanted to post an update on Cinco. He had the mass removed from his hip, and it was a sebaceous cyst, so nothing to worry about. His dental went well, but he needed to have three teeth pulled, one of which was abscessed. He also had one removed that was broken and needed the roots dug out. His pre-op blood work was good, BG at 214. Post op he was at 314, but they weren't concerned by that. They are going to check it again before I bring him home later tonight - said to wait to give him insulin till his usual morning time. The doctor said she didn't see anything major wrong with his eyes, but that he could be developing cataracts and they're too small to see yet. She said cats with diabetes are more prone to cataracts. I'm sure he'll be hating me for the next few days, with his collar on and having to be pilled, but I'm glad we got all that taken care of. Thanks again for all the support!

You may want to get some baby food. Extractions hurt and baby food is easy to eat! (Stage 2 for either Gerber or Beechnut -- it's only a protein and broth, no onions, garlic, or veggies).

If Cinco is getting an antibiotic due to the abscess, you may also want to get a probiotic in case he ends up with diarrhea as a result.

Glad all went well with Cinco!
Hopefully you will get him feeling better and back to the Falls real soon

Very glad it went well! I'm sure you're glad to have him home.

I'd ask my vet if he/she uses a Grady cold laser. It's great for helping this kind of wound heal quickly.

so glad he came through all of that and did well.

punkin had some cataracts - my vet pointed out that he wouldn't need to read the newspaper, so he'd be fine. and he was. :-D

Wow, thanks everyone! I feel very positive and energized from all the good vibes you've sent our way! I am actually headed out to pick him up shortly. They wanted to keep him on IV fluids for several hours.

Sienne, I already have a shelf full of baby food. I have two Abyssinians, and they are very prone to gum issues, so they have teeth cleaned every year and often have extractions. I know the drill. Also, when we have to board him, Cinco refuses his regular food and the only thing they can get him to eat is baby food. I get the stage 2 chicken, on the recommendation of my vet years ago, and all my kitties love it - in fact, when one has to have it, they all insist on having their share! He will be on antibiotics. I've never had a problem with any of my kitties getting diarrhea, but he's my first sugar cat, so he may be different. I'll ask the vet about that.

Marje, I will also ask about the laser. It was a very small cyst, so I don't know if it will be needed, but I know how effective they are from experiences my sister and my cat sitter have had.

Again, thank you all for the support and good wishes. Cinco sends purrs your way, too! :-D

oh, Tricia - I know you're glad it's over and Cinco will be happy to be home, again. It's been a long day for both of you and (not sure where you are) I hope by now y'all are home and relaxing.

Hope you have a peaceful night -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)
