Yesterday afternoon's condo

Cinco certainly didn't like all the upheaval yesterday, with the vet visit, but he came down nicely later, and today I'm much happier with his numbers. Now that I know how much is going on with his eyes, I'm going to try to be a lot less panicky about the highs and lows. I need to work on my technique with the eye drops - I've never had to give them to a cat before, so I'm experimenting with different holds. Some are definitely better than others! One benefit to his being blind is he doesn't see the dropper coming, so does not close his eyes like a sighted cat or person would. That helps! Now I just have to work on getting all the med IN the eye and not around it!

Once again, HUGE thanks to everyone who has been offering support and advice as we navigate this new situation. You truly are the best people anywhere!!! :YMHUG:

Sending healing vines to all kitties and beans in need, and cheers to Sassy on day 9 of OTJ Trial. :RAHCAT

I hadn't thought of that when you'd said he'd be getting eyedrops yesterday Tricia! I guess that would be kind of a challenge! I know with people, it's easiest to pull the lower lid down and put the drops in the little "pocket" that forms, but I don't know any tricks that would help with a cat!

I know with China, even trying to hold her ear long enough after poking sometimes results in a headshake (which gets blood all over everything), so I'm sure it's a challenge to get those drops IN Cinco's eyes

I'm sure you'll figure out a way, and we're all praying that the medication helps. Good luck to you!

Oh wow, I had enough trouble just doing ear drops, I didn't think of the logistics when I read your other post! I hope you can figure out a good way to hold and give them :o Again, I really hope that the eye drops make Cinco feel much better. That is a lovely +3 too, nice and blue :-D More hugs! :YMHUG:

Re: Cinco AMPS 266 +3 153 +6 128

Chris, Cinco does the same thing after his ear poke if we aren't careful to hold the ear until we get it wiped off! My downstairs bathroom, where he gets his shots, often looks like a crime scene! :o I try to get it cleaned off regularly, but if they ever shined one of those black lights like they do in the crime shows, we'd be busted for sure!

Last night, with the second set of drops, my DH held him and I put them in, and it was so much easier then doing it myself. I learned today to let him eat his snack first, then put the drops in - otherwise he's so upset he leaves without eating! He's in his hidey-hole now, still sulking after his mid-day drops! I have to give him a total of five sets of drops, and the anti-inflammatory and the pressure-relief drops are supposed to be given at least five minutes apart, so it seems like he's getting eye drops every hour of the day almost. That on top of testing and shots, I think he's getting a little tired of me! Poor baby. I know it's too soon to be seeing an improvement in anything, but that + 6 reading really made me feel encouraged.

Thanks for the kind words and hugs, Rachel and Chris. Hugs back to both of you and scritches to Chyna and China. :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon

Better! I am sorry about the diagnosis. You've gotten some great ideas about how to help Cinco. He's lucky to have such great beans. :-D :-D :YMHUG:

Re: Cinco AMPS 266 +3 153 +6 128 PMPS 320!

Sigh. So much for encouragement. When we tested Cinco before his PM shot, I got a 400 and almost had a heart attack. Then I realized that the drop of blood was so small it barely triggered the meter, so I poked him again (poor baby), and this time I got a 320. Still not happy with that, but it's more in line with what we've been getting. Also, he did not eat either of his afternoon snacks, so his last meal was at 9:30 this am. I stupidly put the drops in as he was eating his +6 snack, and he escaped to his hidey hole and wouldn't come back out. He slept through the +9 snack. I noticed that after I put the drops in his eyes, he makes this smacking sound with his mouth. It sounds like what my GA Civvie, Kisa, used to do when his tummy was upset. I wonder if there's something about the drops that make him feel nauseated? Maybe the smell of them, or the sensation? Anyway, in future the drops will be held until he's completely done eating. Another lesson learned.
