I am new to the group and wish I had found this forum years ago. My kitty's name is Cinco and he is 19. He was diagnosed with diabetes at about 8 years when I began noticing a change in his personality & behavior. He's been on Lantus all these years, twice a day, and we've had to gradually reduce his dose as he gets older. For the past 2 weeks we have been unable to keep his sugar regulated since an ear infection, in which he received a long acting antibiotic injection and drops we're putting in his ears. He's been to 2 vets and they are puzzled. I think he may be coming to the end of his life and I'm feeling helpless and devastated. He almost seems resistant to the insulin and we've had to adjust his dose up, without giving him too much. I am very sad.

If Cinco is still fighting an infection, that will keep his glucose levels up. Have you had blood work done recently to determineif there are any other issues going on?

What specific ear drops?
My Badger's BGs were erratic when he had ear polyps that were chronically infected and oozed. Antibiotic would only help for awhile. Lat September I finally had the polyps surgically removed and I not have consistent BGs with a much lower dose.

Prayers and Blessings to you and Cinco.
My boy J.D. was diabetic for 9 years, and lived to be 20.
Besides recommending the best of vet care for him, I would just remind you to love on him and appreciate him as much as you can.
