I'm posting just a tad early; tomorrow (the 5th) is Chuck's THREE year OTJ anniversary! I had him to the vet today, and he is EXTREMELY pleased with how Chuck's diabetes has been managed through diet alone. He did recommend switching Chuck to a senior formula (less protein, etc.,) to give his kidneys a rest, since we know renal failure is common in older cats (Chuck is 16 now). He's at a healthy 8 pounds and finally got all his vaccinations (it seemed like every time we went in for vaccinations, he had a health issue, so no vaccinations).

Anyway, for any new beans reading this: This board saved Chuck's life, no doubt about it. After a hypo event at the vet during a blood curve, and subsequent overnight emergency treatment, Team J took me by the hand, beat me over the head (LOL), and got me back to giving him insulin. About 45 days after the hypo event, Chuck went OTJ and has been that way since.

He ocasionally gives me a start on his BG, which I test once a month now. Last month, he threw me some high 100's, so I tested him a LOT for a few days until his numbers settled again. This month, he gave me a 48 (!!); tested him a couple hours later and he settled in the upper 80's.

So, once again, many, many thanks to Team J and everyone in Lantus Land!!

Chuck's two civi buddies, Riley (age 4) and Dallas (age 2) are doing well, following Chuck's lead on the diet. Riley is at a good weight; Dallas, unfortunately, is about 12 1/2 pounds -- I need to work on getting him down a little. He's a rescue, spent the first 3 months of his life in a flooded out neighborhood, so he has a tendency to show a little food agression sometimes.

Wow! 3 years for Chuck, I just took a glance back at this time last year..
that's so awesome.
Thank you for the update Susan, it's good to see these happy milestone.

yes!!!!!!!!!!!! Good to see you, now where is Chuck's picture that I'm so in love with?

Three years OTJ, what an accomplishment. Congratulations!

Libby, I'd love to post up that photo of his big blue eyes, but can't get it small enough to be accepted. I can get it down to about 12 KB, but it's still too big.

I think I have it as an attachment, though...

3 years! and what beautiful eyes. It's great to see happy news. Our Kitty just celebrated his one-year OTJ, thanks to Team J and all of LL, so we're going to try to follow in your footsteps.

I would love to know what food you find to move Chuck to. Kitty gets FF Turkey because of the low carbs, but he's pushing 13.

Congrats, and thank you for the inspiring story.

Great & inspirational story. Chuck sounds like an absolute sweetheart. Wishing you all the best and many, many more years of good health for all! Enjoy & thanks for sharing your experiences.
