Please check out Chloe's curve today. Maybe she's going into remission! At the vet last week, her glucose was slightly high (213), but her fructosamine was normal (292). Can it be possible? After 3 years?

I just got this email from my vet:

"Good afternoon --
Wow, those are some really interesting glucose numbers! There is a possibility Chloe may be going into diabetic remission, but I'm not guaranteeing that yet.

Let's continue with the new Lantus pen, giving NO insulin if her glucose is less than 150, and giving 1/2 unit of insulin if her glucose is 150 or higher.

Please continue with updates on the schedule. Maybe we'll all be lucky enough for Chloe to actually go into diabetic remission, and then you can stop the insulin. Not yet, though.

Tell me how this works for you,"

Does your vet send you emails like this? I think she is terrific.

My vet never answered my emails. Can you tell why I switched.
I don't see any pancreatic activity today from her, just a steady incline. Still needs her hand held yet. I hope those new syringes can help you give more consistent shots on a smaller dose. :)

Your cat is gorgeous! Is Panic her name or your name? I have a question for you. My cat, Fuzma, has long fur and lately, it's become full of mats. She hates being brushed. I tried to cut one off a couple weeks ago and caught some of her skin with it. It's healing nicely. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you! Yes, that is Panic.

Well, Panic never minded being brushed but cleaning her up after her diagnosis was a bit of a nightmare. Took me about two months to get out all the mats! The ones on her belly were the worst. I almost contemplated taking her to a groomer but didn't want to stress her out. One thing I saw mentioned online (in a cow video of all things!) was to never pull the hair taunt when cutting, because the skin in a mat is all twisted in it and you can cut it on accident (as you do). Take the scissors and lay it against the body and snip, no pulling the hair. I also took a greyhound comb and would hold the hair at the base so it didn't pull the skin and would get the knots out. You can also put a comb into the mat against the skin and cut against the comb.

Thanks. I found out about using a comb against the skin, but she just doesn't like being touched anywhere except her head. I wonder if there is any oil that would prevent matting.

If there is I'd love to hear about it. I have a little longhaired kitten now and I'm sure I'll be digging slugs, poo, and mats out of her coat too when she fills out!

Hi Roberta, I agree Chloe is not ready to come off insulin yet.
You need to gradually reduce the dose down to 0.25, 0.1 and a drop before stopping to make sure you get a strong remission.
Also don't chop and change the dose. I see you went from 0.5 to 0.75 then back to 0.5 units. Lantus like consistency, otherwise you will mess up the depot and get wonky numbers.

I found your SS hard to read and move on the page. Is it one of our SS or did you get it from another source?

Maybe I did the copy wrong. Thanks for letting me know. Maybe it's because my vet said she didn't have Google docs, so I;ve been copying and pasting the SS then emailing it to her?
