I'm a little concerned about Chloe today. Her BG tested in the 200's and has been pretty consistent lately, but she acted a bit weird this morning. First of all, she hid in the other room. She hardly ever leaves the bedroom. Maybe she saw me coming with the syringe. The thing that scares me more is that she didn't gobble up her treats afterwards. She hadn't yowled for her breakfast this morning either, but ate about 2 oz of the FF. Should I worry?
 
Did they do a urinalysis, or just a ketone test? She could have developed one since. Crying while using the litter box is not normal, and along with her behavior this AM, something is not right.

She was fine when I got home. The vet tech called me back and told me not to test her so much until we do a curve. I will observe her more.
 
The vet tech said not to test her so much in response to your UTI concern?! That won't help her possible UTI. If you can, collect a fresh sample and take it in first thing in the morning. They should be able to test and give antibiotics if positive.
Also if she has an infection and high bg it can lead to DKA. Testing is a good idea if you suspect infection.
Chuck stopped gobbling up his food as soon as he got it. I didn't pay much attention to it but noted it. Turns out he had a UTI and didn't show symptoms besides little and more frequent pees.
Now he is back to eating all his food in one sitting.
 
How is she this AM? Keep an eye on her, as Steph says any infection can cause a diabetic cat to start throwing ketones which can develop into DKA. Try to make sure she's pooping too. If she continues to cry when in the box, I'd get her checked.
 
I'm not sure what the heck testing can have to do with a UTI. I'd definitely keep on testing her since she might be ill and I'd also call the vet and ask them what one has to do with the other.

This morning I saw her use the litter box and she didn't cry. She yowled after I fed her and before I gave her the shot. Don't know why. Maybe she wanted more food. Chico was outside while she ate and she finished off the whole can! She's also acting a bit more lively, so I think she's fine.

You can order 10 panel urine test strips online for pretty cheap. These are what I used, at my vets direction, to test Chuck for a UTI. I didn't think he had one. He was acting mostly normal. I was sure it would come back normal but he tested positive for a UTI. You could get some of these just to be sure. Much cheaper than a vet visit.

That can be because her BG is better. When my guy had his frequent bouts of cystitis there would be many small lumps in the litter box and he'd also go in my bath tub.
 
Figured I'd update: I've been told by a few members that the strips I use are not accurate. But will add that my vet uses them to test urine to see if further testing needs to be done.
Use at your own discretion and when in doubt the vet would be the best idea.
 
I think the yowling might be because she doesn't like being locked into the bedroom when she eats. She seems to enjoy sharing her meals with Chico. She's acting more her normal self and playing with him again. I am also more relaxed, not having to do the constant testing and keeping her at a steady dose. Also, when I cleaned the litter box this morning, there were hardly any big lumps of urine, just the usual size.
 
The vet called again yesterday, telling me I need to do a curve ASAP. I finally took a reading this morning- 309, but I couldn't get my Everpaw glucometer to turn on, so I did it with the reliable Relion. I know the vet won't accept a curve that's done with a human meter, so if I can't fix the EverPaw, I'll have to buy an Alphatrack. Where can I get one cheap?

The AT meter itself isn't that expensive. It's the AT test strips that are $$$$ - about a dollar a strip. Many people only use the AT meter for a vet curve and the human meter for day to day monitoring.You could post on the main health forum asking for info on the cheapest place to buy them.

No. I will have to find the instructions and figure it out. I've hardly ever used it, so I will be upset if it needs a new battery. Tonight, I have Raku and won't be able to find the instructions. Oh, btw, I found a package at my front door this morning and it was a small painting of Chico from Chewy.com. There was also a card signed by all the Chewy people. What a surprise! It was a real painting done from photos I had sent them.
 
Chloe was doing a lot of yowling this morning, but she didn't eat her food. Last night, Chico caught a mouse in the garage, but he wouldn't eat it.
 
If she's not eating- do not give her insulin. She has to eat something or the insulin will most likely drop her too low into dangerous numbers.
I think the curve would be a good idea since she's not eating. That'd be a good reason for a followup vet visit if she refuses to eat. Her liver can suffer if she goes too long without eating.

No, she's moving around. I found some vomit in the kitchen, but not sure whose it is. I'll give her dinner in about 20 minutes and let you know if she eats. I can't find the dead mouse in the garage.

After watching my other 2 cats chow down, Chloe finally came down from the bed and began nibbling at what was left. Should I give her her shot or take a BG test first?
 
I would offer her more food if she eats what is left after the other cats and is still hungry. If she's not eating well you should always do a test before giving insulin. Food hits their system in about 15-20 minutes so her level can be food influenced. Keep that in mind when deciding on dose or if you're going to shoot or not.
