Hi. I doubt that anyone will remember me, but this site helped me out a lot when Chloe was diagnosed about 3 years ago. I haven't been on the past couple years because after 4 ketoacidosis events, Chloe has been doing great. She saw her vet a couple days ago and the vet said she may even be going into remission. I finally found a vet I can trust. She told me that some cats just can't get regulated and told me to dose according to what her BG number is. For the past couple weeks, I've only been dosing her once a day because after a high number (110-310) she drops down below 100. Last night, I gave her .5 and this morning her BG was 28 and she was yowling. That's the lowest she's ever been, but I immediately fed her and gave her some treats. Three hours later, she's at 57, and I gave her a few more treats. Anyway, the Lantus I've been using is rather old, although not expired, and the vet said I should get a new one. Mark's now said it takes 2-3 weeks for ordinary shipping and the temps here have been over 100 for quite some time. I will make the drive to Mexico even though you have to wait in line for about 2 hours (standing) to re-enter the U. S. I'm wondering if anyone living in the Tucson or Phoenix area has a Lantus pen they could sell me?

yes, I put a post there, too. I'm not that motivated to get new insulin since she's doing fine right now and the old insulin seems to be working if I only give her .5 unit daily. Just the vet seemed to freak out a bit when I told her how old my insulin is. Thank you for remembering Chloe. I'm trying to find a photo to upload. How's your kitty been doing?

LOL I DO REMEMBER thats a feat in itself :p

Trouble passed away peacefully back in 2010. He had a good second half of his life and as I always use to say... Trouble was anything but. :bighug:
Is he the black cat in your photo? Chloe is going on 17 years old now and my other cat, Fuzma, is also a senior. I've gotten 2 new cats, Chico, who's about 4? and who's become HUGE, and Cheddar, about 2 0r 3. Gosh, I can't remember their ages anymore. I just call them the young boys.

Wow thinking about it Trouble actually passed away in 2009. I had them both since 96. Wow my memory SUCKS:facepalm:

A couple other options for you. Ask your vet for a prescription for a single pen and get it locally. At that dose it will last for months. Also if you have Craigslist in your area, check there also. I often see them on our local board.
.
Hi Lisa,
Yes, my vet gave me prescriptions and showed me how to use them. I wished I'd used them a long time ago rather than vials. I dropped a vial once and it shattered. I will upload a pic of my 2 boys, Chico and Cheddar.

Roberta, I do remember you and many times I have wondered about Chloe. We were on the Prozinc side at one time and Chloe really had a bad time staying out of DKA. The ones that were on Prozinc at that time are not often on the board. Hope, all of you stay well. Are your new kitty's blonde or strawberry blonde, my Buddy is blonde.

Hi Teresa,
My boys, Chico and Cheddar, are orange tabbies, although Chico is more on the buff side. I also have Stray, also buff, who's been showing up for breakfast for the past year. He still won't let me touch him. Fuzma, my other senior girl, is also still here. So, I say I have 4-1/2 cats.
Chloe's been off the Prozinc for some time now. She's on Lantus now. I'm glad to hear Buddy is doing well.

I can't say Buddy is doing well, he has terrible chronic pancreatitis. I mean all the time, he has pancreatitis.

Thanks. They're very photogenic. Fuzma is more difficult because she's gray and long-haired. She's also anti-social. Chloe poses well. Finally, Chico is weaning Cheddar. Chico was on my lap today and Cheddar jumped up and tried to nurse. Chico kept growling and eventually jumped down.
