Chianti has made some progress. He appears to have held the reduction we took a few weeks ago. He had another low day over the weekend again, so we reduced him to 3.25. My question is how many cycles before he is out of the influence of the previous dose? I just can't remember. Also, while the neuropathy is still there the b12 has reduced the wobbling a lot.

Thanks for the help. I am in a daze right now because we had to rush a different cat to the vet for a urinary blockage tonight (he made it through surgery) and now I am trying to rework the food plan all over again. I am really struggling to manage the stress of the feline medical needs, a toddler, and a 6 yo whose birthday is Monday who needs a cavity refilled who just started having trouble reading faraway things and who has a ballet show that requires a million rehearsals.

I am literally in a stupor right now.

(((Jenny))) Your house sounds like a little bit of chaos right now. :bighug: Thank goodness Chianti is doing super! The depot from the higher dose can last 4-6 cycles, depending on the size of the dose. That green he got last night would be from the new 3.25U dose, so he's looking great. :D Better numbers will also help the neuropathy.

Sorry to hear about your other kitty's blockage. I have a second kitty that has urinary issues, fortunately he's never been completely blocked. I feed him and Neko the same food, low carb, low phosphorus with lots of water added.

I bet the 6 year old ballet performance will be so cute. :)

Just wanted to send some extra hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Vyktor was blocked twice when he was a youngster eating the evil dry food. No problems after changing to wet food and bottled water.

Thank you all for responding. I am so foggy headed right now trying to read about everything for Massimo the other cat and figuring out how to meet the dietary needs of two in a house of 11. I need to call dh this morning to find out how the transfer went and get details. The only neat thing about it is that the vet who operated on him at the er vet is also the head vet at our state zoo.

Thank you for the depot info. He was 199 at amps this morning. I'm going to let him settle on this dose a few more days unless he throws a really low number. He seems to need time to adjust to the changes. But he needs to be uneventful over the next two days or I'm going to have some kind of panic attack.

Jenny...it really will be a lot easier on you to just transition your whole crew of 11 onto low carb canned food. Then you don't have to worry about Chianti getting into anyone else's food, and you'll be shocked how much healthier all your cats will be!

There's really nothing special about "prescription" foods. Here's "The Truth behind prescription foods" for you to take a look at

I know of at least 1 person with 18 cats (if I remember the count right) with cats with all kinds of different medical issues that saw improvement in them all when she went to feeding everyone low carb canned. She feeds Friskies to her bunch (in the big cans) to save money

This is what we are considering. I am pricing it all out to see what it comes to. I'm even trying to figure out how many cans per cat that becomes. The challenges are going to be the fact that a lot of them are very finicky and HATE pates, some of them are hogs and will not only steal dishes from the slower eaters but also clean up everything that others leave behind, and I have 2 kids with a variety of activities to work around. Also when I spoke to the vet when I went to visit Massimo she said wet will be better but depending on what his kidneys do will decide what level of protein he can handle. I'm trying to not be stressed about it but I am. It has been hard to get Chianti to eat only wet and as it is he is still eating too much fish but he hates everything that isn't flaked. Lately I feel like I have a house full of toddler humans and toddler like cats.

Feeding higher quality protein is what the latest research says is good for kidney disease cats. When you've got the time, check out the website Tanya's guide to CKD and what to feed. But most important as per that site, is feeding what they will eat.
