ok so, I seem to be the bad news messenger at the moment.. :arghh:

Ches is now at a referral clinic having X-rays, scans and treatment for DKA. The specialist has given him a minimal chance of survival.
As I'm sure you can all imagine, AJ is extremely distressed.

The costs are astronomical right now and will probably continue to climb. I'm sure AJ isn't going to be happy with me, but can anyone tell me how simple it would be to set up a gofundme thing? I personally feel she needs some help with this. I'm not sure if I can do that for Ches and AJay or if she needs to do that herself.

Oh, no...

How is it possible for him to have declined so quickly? I just went back to the previous thread and confirmed that he was eating and drinking well until just a few hours before he went in to the vet. I know ketones can come on and progress suddenly, but, wow.

Crossing everything I've got that he pulls through...

I'm so sorry to see this - not been on the board much recently so slightly out of touch. It's always devastating to hear of someone's beloved kitty having such a hard time.
I just Googled GoFundMe and it looks as if you can set up an account for someone else, but you'd need the beneficiary's email address and bank details so I don't know if that would work out or not.
Everything crossed here for some better news soon...

Oh no- This is so sad to hear. I don't know how to set up a gofundme site but I do know people who use it for astronomical expenses for their pets and it seems to work very well for them.

OH NO!!! Just last night the report was that there was no DKA and things were looking hopeful!!

Poor AJay and Chester.

No more updates as yet. Hoping to hear something, anything soon. Apparently keytones don't always show up in the urine sticks? I didn't know that. What concerns me the most is that he was at the er last night and I'm not sure it was picked up there. I could be wrong though.

Prayers, prayers and more prayers for Chester and AJay. The report last night sounded like Ches was moving forward, I'm so sorry to hear that this has now happened. I know if love was medicine and could heal, Chester would live to be a million years old, so I'm praying that all the love coming his way will help turn things around for him.

Thank you, Tara, for keeping us updated. (((Hugs))) to AJay and to you, and softest scritches and kisses for Chester. :bighug::bighug::bighug: :cat: :cat: :cat:

GoFundMe has a great site. Lots of how-to's, examples of other stories and all grouped together by category like animals, children etc. They also show what the goals were and how much has been collected. Ignore all the "GoFundMe is a scam" blabber, there's still a lot of goodness in the world.
:bighug: :) :bighug: o_O

Totally stunned by this news. :(No mention of it from the first vet she saw with him last night and the referral vet seemed to be thinking Chester might have struvites causing the urine leakage but he had a good pee after arriving at the referral clinic so he wasn't blocked. Sounded like they were leaving any further investigation till today. :banghead:

Sending a boat load of healing vines for Chester and a huge supply of hugs for AJay!

So the good news is he made it through the night.

His kidneys are enlarged, they are retesting a few things. And are starting him over on the insulin. Currently discussing the availability of which insulin they can prescribe, not all are licensed here so...

His bloods are looking better and the keytones are dropping.

He is still critical though.

Glad there are some small steps in the right direction

I have been up all night (I suffer from very bad insomnia) and Chester has been on my mind the whole time. I am so glad to hear your news! I'm glad the docs are running more tests and looking at different insulins. I'm praying Chester keeps moving in the right direction!

Thanks for the update, Tara. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Keeping the prayers coming. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

What a trooper Ches is! Thank you for the report, Tara, all sound like steps in the right direction! Sending love back at AJay and Chester, along with more prayers and vines. (((Hugs))) to all. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Come on Chester, we know you can turn this around! You have people all over the world pulling for you, sweet boy! Feel better, little man, and get well soon!:cat:

Thanks for keeping us updated Tara :bighug: :bighug:

So happy to hear that Chester is improving little by little. What a fight Chester and AJay are putting up.

Yahoo and hippeeeee :). Continued prayers for Ches healing, Ajay peace and blessings to you Tara for being such a supportive, loving friend !!! This is fantastic news indeed :bighug::):bighug:

Any more updates? Ches has been on my mind.

Lots of prayers and healing vines from us!! :bighug:

Not much news unfortunately.
Ches isn't responding to the insulin so he's in dka again, the vet thinks he has insulin resistance and is waiting for tests for acro etc. He's very flat today and not as bright. They are trying to find an insulin that will work for him or break through the IR.

Hopefully things will improve soon.

Not the update we wanted to hear. :( I hope the vet is using R insulin and basal insulin to keep the numbers down.

Many more prayers being sent

Sending more prayers and vines for sweet Chester. I hope the vet finds the right insulin and dose to get things turned around fast. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm new here and Siu Bo and I have received so much love and support and kind concern. I hope every kitten here is happy and healthy. Wishing all the best for Chester.

Ok sorry I didn't get a chance to update anything last night I've been running around like a headless chicken taking my dog to the vets for an op and dental and blood tests for the cat and an ecg for my other dog who has a suspected arrhythmia. And sorting out the wedding plans and flowers for my cousins wedding (I'm a florist). Phew! Heads spinning!

There's not a lot of change to tell. He's bouncing from 9-30 so all over the place. He's perked up a little last night. They are testing him for Cushings and as far as I know haven't reached any conclusion with the change of insulin.
If it is Cushings then he will need to go to RVC for treatment. They sound like they know what they are doing that's for Sure!

It's good he perked up last night.
I'm glad the vets sound like they know what they are doing.
Best Wishes to Chester and you.

Thank you for the update.

I hope they get some more definite answers on what is causing the high numbers. Cushing's can definitely cause many of the problems Chester has been experiencing, but RVC is cutting edge for treatment options for Cushing's.

I hope AJay is holding up okay. She has been through so much the last while. Continuing to send an ongoing stream of prayers and ((hugs)).

Bless you, Tara, for these updates . Many continued hugs and prayers for Ajay and Chester, that a solution is found soon and Ajay may have peace in the midst . :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Tara, you truly are an angel to keep us all updated, especially amid all the things you have going on at your end! I'm so pleased that Chester is in good hands with these vets, and is still fighting, bless his sweet little kitty heart! AJay must be a wreck, pleases send her tons of (((hugs))) from all her friends here at FDMB. Keeping both Chester and AJay in my prayers, as well as you and yours. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Tonight's update, (haha feel like I'm reading the news/weather ;)) Chester is bright today, with no cloudy spells!

Seriously though, he's brighter today and has been started on PZI so hopefully he will respond well to that, they are monitoring him carefully and running more tests. There is a whisper on the wind he could possibly, maybe, get home this coming week. They feel that it's going to take a long time to stabilise him, (bg wise) and that as he's improving (and hopefully continues to improve) he could do that at home.

AJay has purchased a keytone meter in the hopes that if they return they will show up on that. I did do some research after the ketostix didn't pick up those keytones. There are three types of keytones I believe and the dip sticks don't pick up one of them or you have to add something to it to get them to show. Minds a whirlwind so don't quote me on that. I'd have to try to find the document again and re-read.

That's wonderful news! Really hoping the change of insulin will make a big difference for him. Good thinking, to get the ketone blood test meter. I'm crossing fingers and paws that Ches gets to come home to recuperate while he's recuperating, if you get what I mean, lol. Kitties are always happier at home! :) :cat: :bighug:

I'm so glad Chester is better, and hope he gets to come home soon and heal where he is happiest. The blood ketone meter will come in very useful.
Thank you, for the updates!
