Just checking in. We are still hanging in there. We had a 49 AMPS today. I wonder if he drops lower overnight. I have stopped checking at night. I think I need to leave more food out.
Fergus went from dry food to canned low carb cold turky. I wonder if that change is what has him so low.
I added a higher 9 carb food today after the 49. He didn't love it though.

So we have a 49 AMPS and an 80 @ +5 then a PMPS of 66.

Still hanging in there. He woke me at 0430 to feed him. I think he needs a bit more food overnight. Honestly, I kinda miss the kibble given my now always early mornings. Though I would NEVER go back to it.

I hope all the kitties in Sugar-Land are doing well. Vibes to all who need it today.

It would've been good to get that test at 430a before you fed him. He might've be pretty low at that time, especially since he was 49 aft that meal at AMPS.
 
I know right? I was on auto pilot feeding in the morning. Usually, he doesn't get me up till 6a. I think he is super dipping overnight. All I have to go on is the last all night long row of checks.
I guess he is a lowrider, as in he hangs out low when he surfs along, lol. That is the only comfort I get. He may have never gone this low with the dry kibble free feed. I think I need to figure out an overnight feed system.

It was sad. His brother got the cold turkey dry to wet switch too. I found him laying next to the almost empty bag. He is only so so on the wets. Seems like they don't like the expensive food. I need to figure out a better phos. Plan for Ferg than the FF.

If you can please post every day with the count down so we can cheer you on and so Camille can contact you to do a great video celebrating being being OTJ. Wow was this a such a short tour of duty!

Did anyone give you the OTJ instructions?

ETA: Do you have an autofeeder? You can program it to feed him at +8-9 so he isn't so food needy early in the AM. I do have two, one for each cat but I always have to use the bathroom at +8-9 so, I just feed them a little then.

It is scary to call it a trial. It seems surreal.

I will keep posting.

I didn't know there were specific OTJ instructions. I am winging it.

I fed him at 2345 and crashed. He is asleep at the foot of the bed and didn't wake me. I think he munched on that overnight. I will have to save up and check into an auto feeder.

Thank you for the support, I will post a new thread when I AMPS.

Here's the OTJ Trail Instructions


Start the trial on the next green pre shot.
If he/she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If he/she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If his/her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. He/she may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we just give him/her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Once he/she is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him/her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he/she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his/her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!
