I know it's too early to get excited, but I love that his ps numbers keep creeping down. It may have more to do with clearing up his toe infection than the insulin switch or dose, but I'm pretty happy either way!

Weird day. +5:348. +8:376
I don't get why he went up all day instead of down. Pmps is in 10 minutes. We'll see how that is.

So...what was Charlie's PMPS?
I wonder if you'll start to see a lower AMPS because he's going lower at night or starting to have a later nadir (say that 3 times fast). Not saying that is happening...I just wonder if you'll see that trend.

his pmps was 438. Yuck. I guess I need a few more spot checks. His ears look like hell though. I wish his bruises would heal so I could get a few more tests in. I'll try a few different times today to see what's going on.

Do you press a piece of folded tissue or cotton over the ear for a few seconds afterward? That always helps reduce, or prevent, bruising with both Jeddie and Beau. I probably hold it on for 5-10 seconds.

Also, what kind of lancets are you using? I have a favorite brand that, to me, glides right in and I don't have to jab as hard. Other brand I had to jab and jab to the point where Beau would yelp. I used to say one made his ear feel like butter and all others made his ear feel like shoe leather. My favorite brand is BG Ultra Fine II 30 gauge. I get them on ebay for a better price.

I'm thinking of switching meters to maybe the relion micro cuz the ultima requires so much blood. I sometimes need to double-poke and do a lot of milking to get enough blood even with a 28 gauge lancet. I do apply gentle pressure after the poke, but sometimes he still gets pretty bruisy. Maybe I'll try a thinner lancet with a deeper poke setting, too.

I always do two quick pokes right next to each other, wait a beat, then use my fingers to "pulse" on the ear, rather than milk it. Remember that the blood is flowing back from his ear tip down the side of the ear, so if you hold you fingers above it you are stopping the flow. Usually it doesn't bead up until I release the pressure both above AND below the poke area. I also use a rice sock to heat the ear.
