(I have also posted this in the Prozinc forum as I don't know if the answer is different for different insulins so where was best for me to ask the question here or there & ive never used the Prozinc board before so I've gone for both!):
Hi
Mac is on Prozinc. His injection times at the moment at are 8.45 and 20.45 just because 8.45 was the time his first ever injection took place (that was caninsulin on 15th Aug at the vet's demo to us).
When I stop working from home and go back into the office again (I don't have to just yet) we will need to change the times - probably to 7.00 & 19.00.
I don't want to leave it to the last moment to make the change so wanted to find out in advance the best way to approach it so I can plan in as necessary ?
Do you move it forward so many minutes each shot every day until you get to the time you want or do you move the morning and afternoon shots forward by the same amount so 8.30 & 20.30 then move both forward again the next day - or 2 days later, 3 days, a week ?
Or can you just not give the 20.45 shot at all then do the one the next morning at 7.00 and then carry on from there on the new timings ? (the vet did say to us at the start that not to worry if we have to miss the occasional shot as it would not do Mac any damage. I can see that logically it will only be same as those times when I have had a fur shot so did not in effect give any insulin that shot time).

Thanks so much in advance for any guidance that you can give.
Gill

@Panic Hi Elizabeth
Just checking please - when you say each cycle do you mean 24 hours or each injection? So if the latter, it would be back 15 or 30 mins for AM shot then bring back another 15 or 30 for PM so 2:time reductions in a day?
As I say the other idea was to skip the PM shot then go straight to doing the next AM shot at the new time I want so 1 hr 45 earlier - would that be OK ?
From a general point - if I am going to be out at my usual shot time once in a while - do I give it when I get back if within an hour of the usual time then give the AM shot at the usual time so only 11 hours between them? What if I am outside that 1 hour window - do I just miss that shot ?
I am so sorry to bombard you with questions - feel free to pass me over to someone else !! Just worry about getting it wrong & harming Mac.
Thanks for your help - was trying to advance plan for maybe having to go back into the office at some point in October for a few days a week but after today's announcement (my post on the community board) not such a rush by the looks if it !!
Still will be nice to get it straight in my head now

No, you can only give insulin an hour early.

Let's make an example for you - say you give insulin at 8:00 but want to move it to 6:00 in 3 days time. Here's what you would do:

Sunday AM: 8:00 - PM: 7:30
Monday AM: 7:00 - PM: 6:30
Tuesday AM: 6:00 - PM: 6:00

One cycle is 12 hours. From shot-time to next shot time is 12 hours / one cycle.

If you are really in need of moving shot-time quickly you could do:

AM: 8:00 - PM: 7:00
AM: 6:00 - PM: 6:00

But it's always better to do it gradually if you have the luxury. Same for skipping shots - you could technically just skip evening shot and start your new time at the next morning but I would rather not skip unless I had to.

It must have been on your Prozinc forum version of the thread that someone mentioned about changes due to daylight saving time......I had not given any thought to clock changes until I read that!!

Thanks that's very clear about moving the time - I love examples!!
Is there a rule as to the absolute minimum time you must leave between prozinc shots - is this 11 hours?
So if I usually give it at 20.45 but am late home could I still give it up to 21.45 ? and would i then give the next shot at the usual 8.45 am ? And if I don't make it home by 21.35 ( so more than an hour late) do I just have to not give a shot?
I may be making this more of a headache than it needs to be but it is worrying when it's all new and my sugar kitty is depending in me to get it right !
Thank you for your help & extreme patience - you're a saint !!
Gill

Well if you're late you're late, not much you can do about that. I would just remember to never give a shot more than an hour early. I'm not a fan of skipping shots on the regular though, makes kitties feel bad enough without their insulin.
