changing dose

Hello all! I've spent the last week or so lurking in other people's posts, offering encouragement at the very least when I can't offer anything else, but now I need a little advice again.

As you can see in Bailey's SS, I've tried a slightly increased dose the past two mornings and his +6 test has been higher than it was when we were holding steady at 1.5 units. Am I going the wrong direction in changing his dose? Or should we have held steady for a little longer at 1.5? He was getting pretty good curve action while on that steady dose for several days, but I guess I'm confused about how the insulin works. I'd assumed that if I wanted to start bringing his numbers lower, more toward regulation, that a slightly increased dose would be needed.

As ever, I appreciate any and all input!

Interesting Kellie. Your nadir (if it is at +6 and not earlier or later) is higher. But your pmps is lovely! Maybe stick with the 1.6 a few more cycles and see if the pm pattern continues. If so, we could see if the overnight cycle is causing the pink amps and consequently the higher cycle in the day. And adjust that.

Just keep muttering data gathering, data gathering....... :mrgreen:
 
Thanks, Sue! Last night's PMPS was a surprise so I shot a little lower, 1.4, but then this morning we were right back in the pinks. Do you think 1.6 would be too much if he has another pre shot in the upper 200s? It's probably weird to be worrying about these little tenths of a unit but I've always been cautious with the night time shots just because I don't think I'd know he'd gone hypo until morning.
 
I'm thinking it is time to get some pm numbers so you know whether he is higher (then an
increase could be good) or if he drops and bounces. I know it 's hard to get pm numbers. Maybe a before bed test and another when you get up at night. (If you're like me, I am up about 3am every night )
 
Sounds like a plan. Getting a +2 PM shouldn't be a problem but I sleep like a rock so I'll try setting another alarm for an early AM test. I went ahead and gave him 1.6 tonight since his PMPS was again lower than usual and I'm curious to see what it'll do to his AMPS, even if I don't get to test much in-between just yet ;-)
 
It may be easier to wake up if you make the time a multiple of 45 minutes, the average length of a sleep cycle. It tends to be easier to wake at the end of a sleep cycle, than trying to wake in the middle, during the deepest period of sleep.

For example, 3 hours is 4 * 45 minutes and 6 hours is 8 * 45 minutes.
 
Your nadir looks better with the 1.5, Kellie. Now paws crossed that he won't bounce. His numbers are overall a little lower - same colors but a little less.
 
Thanks for checking in, Sue! It looks like either he did bounce or I've got something goofy happening with my meter again. For more than a hundred points difference on tests a minute apart I'm a little suspicious. Will be checking him at +2 tonight (and setting an alarm to try again to get up for an early test).

Bailey had diarrhea yesterday and his stool was still loose today when I cleaned the box. He didn't eat very much today either (only about 1/3 of his AM can - mostly he just licked it all dry - and about 1/6 cup YAZC). He's very vocal though and lovey and active. I took him outside for a bit this afternoon and we walked around the yard and he sunned himself on the driveway, just watching the world go by. Aside from the upset tummy and the weird numbers, I'm glad he's acting more like his old self, of course!

Good job focusing on the positive non-number changes too! Glad to see the Bailey isn't quite so bouncy anymore.
 
Thanks, Lisa. I need to be reminded of this today because we've had an AWFUL morning. Bailey has had diarrhea the past couple of days and I thought it was getting better but apparently not. And this morning I didn't realize he was in the litter box and I opened a can in the kitchen and he came flying out like a rocket, not having covered up his extremely runny poo and tracking it all across the apartment. Had to wash his feet and tail and then mop of course and it just left both of us a little frizzed out. He wouldn't hardly let me test him after the mini-bath so I had to have a neighbor come hold him so I could give his shot after breakfast. Ugh, just a totally wild and (thankfully) out of the ordinary morning!

Here's hoping the rest of the day goes better. I'm already made a little happier by seeing Ben isn't so bouncy either! Still high but at least he's evening out and that seems like a good first step :-D
