OK, thank you to everyone who helped me with the low BS problem yesterday. My mom tested her when she got there at 8pm and she was 325 so she did not go up too badly.

D/T the overabundance of BS readings in the 300's, after conferencing with my mom and my aunt who are both nurses with extensive experience with diabetic patients, I decided to up my dose to 1.5 daily. Unfortunately, I am not around to do a curve right now and I won't be able to do one until next wednesday. I am a little concerned with the low numbers I have been getting, but because of her history of ketones in her urine, I am not willing to go another week with her numbers reading so high.

Her first dose of 1.5 was this morning at +12 from last night. check out her spreadsheet and let me know what you think.

In summary, Baby was diagnosed 3 months ago, started her on Humulin insulin 2 units, moved her up to 3, and then dropped her back to 1 when I found FMDB, on Lori and Tom's advice. Switched to lantus last month, started at 1u on 7/31, moved up to 1.25 on 8/8, and now up to 1.5 on 8/17. When Baby was originally diagnosed, she had ketones in her urine, I bought ketone testing strips but have not been able to test yet.

I think that's basically it. Thank you so much everyone for the help!!!

Sarah, this is just my 2 cents k?
It is an odd time to increase dose. We don't know what the nadars are for those book end pinks, but the green amps yesterday is note worthy.
I understand the ketone issue and know you need to keep low numbers...but do you understand the theory that too much insulin can produce high numbers? Called a bounce.
Also, you know the dangers of hypo. When no one is around to see it. Treat it.
I would run this by the girls over in lev. to get their opinion....

Hi Sarah,

I agree with Lori, without many nadirs, you don't know if she's too high or too low. You just had a low pre-shot which indicates that she's dropping into normal or possibly hypoglycemic numbers during her nadirs. Raising the dose could bounce her numbers even higher if this is the case, with the added threat of hypoglycemia.

I don't think I've commented in one of your threads before--is there a reason why you can't test her at +6 at least once a day? You should be aggressively dosing with those ketones present, which means collecting the nadir tests and raising or lowering the dose based on those tests. Aggressive dosing can sometimes mean lowering the dose if the nadirs show that the dose is too high. A too high dose will keep a cat in numbers just as high as too low a dose.

I understand how hard it can be to get tests in--I work two jobs and go to school on top of that. What I did was set an alarm at night to get the +6 test, and then I would go right back to sleep. I know it seems like a pain, but the more you collect those tests, the more quickly you can get her into normal numbers, and hopefully off insulin, period. And then you only will have to test once a week or so. :-D

I was not able to test as much as a lot of people here because I am so busy--so you can take a look at Bandit's spreadsheet if you want to see what I did (I did test a lot in the beginning so ignore that--you can scroll down to see when I had to cut back on testing). I would always get the amps/pmps, then I would grab a couple numbers during the pm cycle. I rotate these numbers around a little bit--for example, I get a +4 and a +6 one night, then a +3 and a +5 another night, and so on. This gives you an adequate picture of whats going on so that you can dose. If my second job allowed me, I would get a curve on a Saturday or Sunday am cycle.
