After 2 years of strictly being on raw rabbit (the on ly kind he'll eat), this guy decides to become a junk food addict.
(i hope he doesnt start smoking cigars) now he will only eat FF and friskies. what to do? i'm afriad if i insist on raw,
he'll starve. does what he eats really make a difference in his FD regulation, even if the FF is low carb?

 Smoking cigars, making long-distance phone calls, tattoo of a fish skeleton on the tip of this tail...

Raw is definitely a better quality food. Would you want to try mixing the raw in with the FF and slowly add more raw and less FF until you get him tranitioned back to all raw?

I agree with Marcy - raw is better, try mixing. Even if you can only get him to 1/2-1/2, that's better than all FF or Friskies. Better yet would be half raw, half Wellness or Evo.

I used to feed Friskies - for 25+ years, but I recently dropped it because I don't think it is any better than Sophisticat and it has menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity) in it and that is a questionable ingredient. Sophisicat doesn't have it. So now I mix Sophisicat with Wellness or Evo. I just checked my cans and neither of those brands have MSBC (Wellness used to even a few months ago). I think FF has it also.

Oh, as to your original question, it may or may not effect his FD regulation. ECID, as they say. FF tends to be about 4% carbs and Friskies if 7-8% carbs (on average across the flavors). Raw must be 4% or less. Other than the FD though, raw is better for his overall health. I would feed it if I could afford it.

Marci, have you ever tried Wellness like Sheila suggested? I agree with she and Marcy that raw is best, and I wouldn't give up on the raw rabbit, but if you could mix it with a better quality canned food that would help. Where do you get the raw rabbit from?

You can also cook up some chicken breasts and add some chunks to the canned for extra protein. You need to watch his weight though and make sure he is maintaining.

This page from Dr. Lisa's site might help too:

Sorry for this delayed response, crazy at work this week...i have tried Wellness ,it's a hit or miss, dep.on his mood.
he is eating raw rabbit again, not as enthusiastically. i did buy wellness and mix it in with his raw, sometimes it works.
i knwo he has to eat ,so what ever works,i start off with raw, next is wellness, then ff, then friskies.
i notice quite a differnece in his #'s when on an empty stomach, not a real difference in #'s based on different foods.
thanks for your help everyone.
