So after a few short weeks of control (on Lantus), we haven't been able to get back there again. She otherwise seems OK. Does anyone have thoughts on whether she's bouncing now or not getting enough? I thought I'd check over here since we got so much good advice back when she was on Levemir.

Celle's litter mate has chronic renal failure, and we've been agonizing over end-of-life decisions for him, so I've barely been remembering to give Celle her shots when it's time. But the 400s do wake me up that we can't just let this slide. I'm kind of a wreck right now though. I think I might feel better if I could at least know that she's doing OK.

Hi Melissa,
I feel for you with the difficulty regulating Celle. I'm having similar troubles with my cat, Munchie, who is also currently on Lantus (but thinking I will switch her to Lev to give that a try). She also had a brother with chronic kidney disease (T.C.) who died last November. In the middle of T.C.'s kidney disease getting worse, Munchie got diagnosed with diabetes. It is emotionally and physically difficult to have multiple cats with serious health issues. My thoughts are with you around your other cat and the end-of-life decisions. I know that was very difficult for me as well. My vet supported my decision to be with him at home, walked me through the process of what to expect, and he was able to die peacefully in my lap (during a snowstorm where the power was out to boot :)). Others will be along with dosing advice. Have you checked out Tracy and Leo's SS on Lantus- Leo has similar numbers as well I think. Sending healing thoughts your way.

Thank you Elizabeth. I really appreciate the kind thoughts.

I can't find Tracy and Leo's spreadsheet, so if someone could link to it, please do.

She's really been all over the place, hasn't she? The first thing I wondered from you post is whether she is stressed over her brother's health declining? That could throw in a tough to control factor as it probably isn't a constant stress level for her. And maybe it isn't a factor. Its so hard to tell with them.

In looking at her SS, it looks like she has done best most recently on 3.25u and 3.5u - so maybe go back to 3.5u and see if that helps? You just tried 3.25u and didn't see results there. But I also notice that the only green number you got was on 4u - then all of a sudden you get a 500! Frustrating!

So sorry about Celle's brother. I know you are going through a stressful time too (and she may be picking up on YOUR stress). I know Beau was depressed when his best pal was declining from cancer. His FD was diagnosed 2 weeks after she died. And I was so wound up in her care I didn't notice he was dropping weight and had PU/PD. These things effect us and effect the other animals in the house.

(((hugs)))
