He vomited his breakfast on Friday and ate very little since. Gave him pedilight and water mix, plus gave him a small does of mineral oil yesterday as he has not pooped since thursday. Came home yesterday from work to find he threw up yellow green bile. Took him to emergency vet last night and he is still there. He is close to what ? kedoasidosis? is that what it is called? Doc just called and I am rushing aorund to get ready for work, as he will be there probably until tomorrow when I will transfer him to my vet. They will check ketones again and electrolights at noon, vitals every 2 hours. he's been aggressively hydrated and is doing better, but not out of the woods. They are giving him R.

Please keep him in your prayers. I appreciate it.

Re: 7/21: Cedric at emergency vet

Prayers for Cedric to get through this and to come home soon. When you visit him, bring him something that smells like you to put in his cage so he's comforted.

Re: 7/21: Cedric at emergency vet

Jesse and Cedric,

Get better soon, Cedric. What did the vet tell you, Jesse? Did he throw ketones? R is standard vet therapy for diabetic cats who aren't eating and need rehydrating.

The other day, he definitely had a tummy ache, but I didn't get that it was going to escalate. Sorry I missed this.

Keep me posted.

Jesse,
No stool plus vomiting makes me think of very bad constipation. Talk to the vets about his bowels and make sure he has no blockage.
You should start adding miralax and more water to his food so that he does not have more issues with his bowels.

I am glad he's at the vet's and getting watched closely.... I hope he comes around nicely with their treatments.

Re: 7/22: Cedric at emergency vet again

Yes, he gets 1/8 teaspoon of Miralax in his food twice a day plus a tablespoon of water.
Currently back at regular vet for the day. He is more perky but still is not eating enough food. Bill as of 7am this morning is up to $3850 in total.

Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers - and tell him to EAT!
(tell his brother to stay out of my makeup...he has a swath of "light" bare minerales powder accross his left cheeck today...)

Keeping Cedric and you in our thoughts and prayers today. Come on Cedric! EAT your foods, they are yummy and good for you and you need to eat to keep your strength up and to get better.

Bro to Cedric, listen up. You're a boy kitty. Leave your mommabean Jesse's makeup alone. That is unless you're going to start appearing on television. I hear those beans need lots of makeup.

Re: Cedric at emergency vet again [updated 7/23 8:25am]

Cedric is home! Can't get him to eat much, although he did eat at the vet today. They did give him some Mirtazapine, an appetite stimulate. When I gave him his antibiotics, he was excited to eat the treats, so I will be trying to give him what he ate earlier at the vet, then some treats if he doesn't respond.

He's going in for an ultrasound on Thursday. I am working from home tomorrow to be with him.
Thanks again for your continued prayers.

Re: Cedric updated 7/23 9:22pm - home!

Yeah! Cedric is homeeeeeeee. That must feel so nice to have him back home with you.

Wink got quite a few doses of Mirtazapine when I first got him. He didn't want to eat his foods either.

The mirtazapine never really lasted more than 1.5 to 2 days for him. Didn't make him too vocal or agitated like it can for some kitties.

Re: Cedric updated 7/23 9:22pm - home!

I am so glad Cedric is home. Get much much better soon, Mr. C.

Re: Cedric updated 7/23 9:22pm - home!

He was eating better today, not 100% but getting there. He wasn't too interested in dinner - he had his denamarin at 3pm and his antibiotics at 7. Insulin and dinner was at 6pm. his BG is over 300, but only about 50 points higher than what I see on his vet notes from the past 4 days. I plan to take the "packet" in to work tomorrow and see if I can scan it and save it to my google docs with a link. Well, since he's going to the vet for an ultrasound, maybe I should wait a day.

I do appreciate everyone's prayers. It's been a rough few days.

On the flip side, after my failure last week to catch Sydney, my injured feral, I met with a woman from a TNR group who is going to help organize a TNR for the small colony on my old bosses' property. Sydney showed up when I called (she laughed when I told her they recognize my car, but they do) and he is walking better. She noticed that he couldn't scratch an itch with his rear left leg, so the idea of a dislocated hip is probably an accurate one. And Grey Lady is pregnant...again. She's petite, and to our knowledge, her kittens don't make it. You should have seen her cuddling with Sydney though...1+1=too many!

Ultrasound results:
Pancreatic findings are compatible with acute pancreatitis and chronic active pancreatitis.

He ate this am, and again at the vet (not up to his normal amount though) and seemed perky at the vet, but is now wiped out. Not interested in eating, and I am not sure if that is a side effect of the Denimarin (taken an hour before dinner) or the Biomox (antibiotic). He's heading for the kitchen, so I am hoping....

So what food would you recomend feeding that is less fatty? He currently eats:
Wellness - turkey, turkey & salmon, chicken & herring
Friskies - mixed grill, turkey & giblets, ocean whitefish
Wervua cats in the kitchen -funk in the trunk, splash dance, goldie lox & chicken frickazee

Oh, and the bare minerals finally came off of Dallas' face...

The Friskies Ocean Whitefish & Tuna is lowest of the Friskies flavors in fat at 43%, but 9% carbs.
T&G, 51% fat, *% carb
Mixed Grill 49% fat, 11% carb

All those Wellness flavors are 58 to 65% fat

Weruva cats in the kitchen
Funk = 29% fat, 8% carb
Goldie Lox, 30% fat, 4% carb
Splash, 46% fat, 4% carb
Chicken frickazee, 47% fat, 2% carb

I'm guessing this is the vet trying to recommend a low fat diet for the pancreatitis?

Oh, and the bare minerals finally came off of Dallas' face...
Oh good! Now he's back to looking like all those actors and actresses with no makeup on! ;-) Incognito.
