Sigh ~
Dallas told cjleo that he was bored with the food choices (I guess he misses the days when he ate people food as a stray) of 3 types of Wellness and 1 type of Friskies. So out I went to Pet Supermarket yesterday to buys a couple of different kinds of food. I bought Merrick's Cowboy Cookout which both of them ate last night with no problem. This monring I gave them the surf & turf from Merrick's and apparently Cedric threw it up. I cought him once, then as I was leaving noticed he had thrown the rest of it up earlier when I was upstairs getting dressed. The only difference between the 2 is the fish. So Dallas is getting the other can of the surf & turf and I don't think we will buy it again.

Since I have 2 and they both are to eat the same stuff, any other recomendations on food, preferably something in a larger size can with no fish? I did buy two different types of Nutro, but they are at home and I can't quite remember the names on the label. I'll have to post that later tonight.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Re: Cedric barfed again!

Hey Jess,

two big favorites here that come in the 13oz cans are Friskies Mixed Grill and Turkey and Giblets, some other favorites although they only come in the 5.5oz cans are Friskies Poulty Platter, Country Style Dinner and Chicken & Liver Dinner.

Yep, I have one that barf if the fish content it too high in his food too, so I feel for you.

Re: Cedric barfed again!

Have you tried any of the Merricks Before Grain foods? I've had good luck with those when Gabby was being finicky, along with the Cowboy Cookout. They don't come in big cans though. Stay away from the Quail with the Before Grain--it's ultra high in phosphorus. Also, the Grammy's Pot Pie flavor is good and doesn't have fish-it's 8% carbs but it doesn't affect Bandit's BG at all.

The only other food i can think of the big cans is EVO. The only problem I had with EVO is that it's pretty high in fat. This isn't a problem with most cats but Bandit gets mild gastro upset when he eats foods high in fat so I switched him to Merricks.

Re: Cedric barfed again!

Hi Jesse,

Just a suggestion - treat them like babies. Introduce one new food at a time. And, wait a week or two between new foods.

Even though they may not "take" to a new food immediately, I often offer it a few times before I give up on it. Personally, I limit fish for my boys. Even Mixed Grill from Friskies tends to aggravate tummies in my house.

Good luck,

Claudia

Re: Cedric barfed again!

And Dallas is already "aggrivated" from not getin' any apparently! LOL When I came back from my walk just now, he was waiting at the door, wanting to go out! i keep telling him he's an indoor kitty now....

Back to the guy with the issues...

cedric never had a problem before last year. I used to feed him EVO cat & kitten (turned his nose up at their 95% stuff), but the last time I gave it to him he barfed. He never barfs.

The other 2 kinds I picked up at Pet Supermarket are Nutro natural choice complete care adult chicken & turkey and mature health salmon & tuna entree.
I thought Cedric had some kind of liver alergy, or maybe beef; now it seems to be fish, but we don't have an issue with the Wellness chicken & herring or turkey & salmon.
maybe I will just give the new guy the new food (stomach like iron) and leave Cedric be. He loves the Friskies Mixed grill and I think that might be what Dallas is tired of. I get a case of 24 of those babies for the same price as 12 of the Wellness.

Maybe cedric needs to talk to Miz Claudia in the future. I don't think the pupkin is helping to keep him regular; I don't think he likes it.

OH, is the Nutro ok for diabetics?

Re: Cedric barfed again!

I have a feeling they are on his mind every day - he's always standing by the slider!

Yesterday I was on FB on the site of a TNR group in the county next to me, as I was going to post a question about ear-tipping. This very friendly female has been hanging around our office and while I would love to take her home (assuming she doens't have one) there is no way. Dallas apparently is too horny and I really cant have more than 2 - that's bad enough for my mom with the allergy when she comes to visit (not that I am waiting that to happen.....). Well, someone posted about a person in my town - a man - who apparently has a trap that belongs to the county and had trapped 14 cats (as of last Friday) from a feral colony around here (haven't figured out where yet). I am so scared for this girl as she is very friendly. This Ted Bundy-in-training would be able to scoop her right up. This guy apparently had a confrontation with the police last Friday and ran over one of the cats right in front of the colony's care taker. Apparently some ladies are trying to get the rest of the cats safe from this monster. They think he has been either dumping the cats or killing them. Guy claims he is taking them to Animal Services, but he's not in this county (who loaned him the trap that are trying to get back apparently). I am just sick about it. Someone on FB justested their friend - Smith & Wesson.

Update:
He vomited again today! A new Wal-Mart opened down the street (a small one) so I stopped in to see if they had the Friskies Turkey & Gibbets that Mommaof Muse recomended (they did). I also picked up some special Kitty mixed grill, which Cedric has eaten before with no problem. Well, no issue with the Friskies on Friday. I gave them the Special Kitty this am and Cedric ate about 1/2 of his and promptly barfed (of course he had to do it in the carpet....). He has eaten this before with no problem, but today.....I noticed it has fish in it. Maybe he's developing a fish alergy? Well, the cans I have left are going back, as it's pretty tough to police who eats what. :-x I feel so bad when he gets sick..... I had the same probolem with the EVO cat & kitten last year. He ate it for awhile with no issues, then one day - barf!
