I took Chibi in for her regular exam (to keep track of glucose and kidneys, etc.). She had been coughing when playing and the vet heard some wheezing when listening to her lungs. We did an xray and there's a "bulge" in her pulmonary vessel? Assumed it was heartworms but the results came back negative..although a slew of other problems popped up instead. I got a copy of her blood work and urinalysis and I'm trying to figure out what's going on. These are the things that came up high or low..if anymore info is needed please let me know.

Urea Nitrogen HIGH 43
Creatinine 1.5
Glucose LOW 38
Cholesterol HIGH 236
CPK HIGH 583
Platelet Count LOW 174
Lymphocytes LOW 858
Urine Gravity HIGH 1.068
Protein HIGH 1+
Blood HIGH 3+
RBC HIGH 4-10

Help?

The vet doesn't seem too concerned about her kidneys but based on these findings I am. I'm trying to figure out what's going on.

The blood work does not show any really bad to me.
Assuming these are for urine:
Urine Gravity HIGH 1.068
Protein HIGH 1+
Blood HIGH 3+
RBC HIGH 4-10

The HIGH gravity is strange since I would expect it to be lower in an older cats.
The Protein n the urine is not that high and is somewhat normal for an older cat.
If the Blood HIGH +3 is for while blood cells then that is normal since 99$% of the time it is false positive for cats.
If it is for red blood cells that is consistent with the RBC HIGH 4-10 since it appears that this is from microscopic examination of a urine sample.
What does the vet say about the RBC? There really should not be any.

Vet just wants to check everything again in 4-6 months. It seems a bit of a long wait to me..I'd rather try to catch something early.

Oh and Chibi is 12 yrs old and on 2.5 units of Humulin N twice daily.

I'm wondering if a cardiac consult would be helpful, or at least an ultrasound.

FYI: Humulin lasts roughly 6-8 hours in the cat, so there may be periods without insulin coverage allowing excess glucose to be excreted through the kidneys and/or cause damage to other organs.
