Cats and covid? At the risk of sounding wacky

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced symptoms with any of their cats ( diabetic or not). Lando was diagnosed because i brought him and my other cats ALL into the vet for inappetence, shortness of breath, wheezin and lethargy. All got these symptoms within a few weeks, and all i would have described them all as very heathy ( though seniors) and food motivated before this.
The CDC has recently posted a page about cats contracting covid, so i finally feel a bit heard ( since my vet was reluctant to entertain covid as a diagnosis)
Im not sure what i am asking… i guess i felt like a tinfoil hat wearer when breaching this subject with my vet.
Hope everyone is well and healthy!

Chelsea,

You aren't nuts at all . . . news came out pretty soon (2020) that our cats could get Covid (easier than pet dogs), and a few kitties were soon diagnosed in the US. I read yesterday that five lions at the Dallas Zoo were recently diagnosed.

Next time I talk to our vet, I'm going to ask him if he's seen - or tested - any cats/dogs for Covid-19. I've seen him a lot lately, but that never came up.

Be well Lando, along with all your buddies. You know, I'm curious (oops) if a human gave their cats the virus:rolleyes: In the stories I've read, that was usually the case;)

Thanks for the reply. I live alone and wasnt aware that i got covid ( unless it was asymptomatic ) but ill tell ya, it was weird having all my cats sick at once with a bizarro illness!

Thank you for the well wishes! Same to you!!

Why did my vet give me the tinfoil hat then haha! Maybe vets are afraid people will euthanize their pets automatically?
I really have no idea! I barely have time to follow news, but even just with TV on in background or my phone's home page articles, I've seen numerous things about big cats (cheetahs, etc). Hell even our local zoo out extra fencing further out from the cheetahs with a sign saying it was due to COVID risk for them...not a far stretch to think cats!

Agreed, ive heard it all also. Well, hopefully all of this is behind my household of cats, and hopefully no long term symptoms

Cats have been diagnosed with Corona virus for decades. In fact, one of my kitties had Corona over 20 years ago. It's not the same variant as what we're seeing with the current pandemic but the virus has been around for a long time.

There was a recent item in the news about white-tailed deer being infected with Covid.

I had no idea! Ok, well i guess that makes me feel slightly less guilty for potentially infecting all of them.

Probably a little late to the party on this, but I had Covid around Jan 1 and my husband had it pretty bad. Gizmo sneezed that whole week and seemed downtrodden and slow. This was also the time period before I really knew she was diabetic, so could have been anything. But I’m fairly certain she had a little Covid going on. Def not a tin foil hat situation.

it was pretty transient and mild. I think she was more mad that I was trying to stay away from her than anything. But definately sneezing and some other mild symptoms.
