Seems like Catee's BG is going up than coming down. Before I took him to the vet it was staying around the mid to high 200s then the last week started going into the 300s.

Now it is going into the higher 300s, mid 200s. Vet told me to feed him whatever he will eat. Right now that is Orjen cat food dry. I believe it is 18% carbs. I've tried to get him to eat fancy feast, bought some friskies pate and he will not eat it. Even tried the FortiFlora. He will not touch the Young AGain cat food. He is only eating about 2 to 3 ozs of food a day.

I am just worried and at a lost. When he was first diagionsed, the vet used vetsulin to get him down at the hospital but he wasn't eating. I got him home and was able to get him started on Young Again. I only had to give three shots. So going through this again and it seeming to drag out is confusing. I thought once I got some insulin in him the BG would go down. Instead it seems to be going up.

I am wondering if I should take him back to the first vet. They are in the same practice. I am just so worried about it staying up.

Thanks for reading.

I think, as long as he is eating the high carb, you may need to increase the insulin to compensate. His numbers aren't awful, especialy nice blues at night. But he can afford to drop a little more. How about an increase to 1.5?

I hope you continue to try things to get him to eat the wet low carb. Is there a treat he loves? If you can find one, you might dress the wet up with it.

Thank you for responding. I really do appreicate the help and support.

Yes the high carb food... I so wish he would get over to canned food. I do have some treats he loves. I can try that. I try every night to get him to eat the canned food.

I think I will increase him.... probably tomorrow at PMPS so I can keep a watch on him.

Let me ask you this, he slept a lot yesterday and wasn't moving around much at all. Can that be from the diabetes or something else like the pancretis? He has been up a little more today and he does have a little cold.

I would say the lethargic and loss of appetite but tonight he has been more active. Ate 2 ozs of Orijen cat food and it shows. +5 BG 320. Wish he would eat the low carb food.

AMPS 394, +2 BG 237. Quite a drop. He ate a bite of Purina DM before the +2.

I have been giving his shot in the scruff of his neck. This morning I had a hard time picking the skin up, so I gave it more towards the side of his chest. Would this allow for quicker absorption of the insulin?

I stuck with the 1.25.... looks like he is staying around the same mid to high 300s preshot and mid 200s nadir. I was going to do a curve today but he kept jumping and trying to bite me when giving his shot so unsure if it went in well. Thought I would wait until I saw the Vet to go up again.

On giving him the shot, he seems to be catching on. Tonight he kept on jumping everytime I tried to give him the shot. Do they get to where they "catch on" because I haven't had no problems until today?

Most, especially if they are busy eating, ignore it. What size syringe are you using? (30 gauge is a nice small size). Do you gently roll the insulin to mix the insulin and warm it a little?

It is a 29 gauge needle. Think he is getting tired of being poked :)
Yeah I roll it in my hands to mix. He was jumping just when I was putting the needle in... did not matter where. I wonder if there was something wrong with the needle.

Although 29 gauge seems like it wouldn't be much different from a 30/31, it could be enough to bother him. You might try the smaller gauge and see?

Definately gave him a fur shot. AMPS was 421... yikes! I got it in him this morning but he seems to be wising up to the pull and tent method. Gave it to him in the scruff of his neck as he kept trying to bite me giving it to him on the side. When I pulled out the shot in the scruff of his neck is when he tried to bite me this time. Where can you buy needles... just the local drug store?

Also, I was going to do a glucose curve today but should I wait until Tuesday to let it get back down?

U40 needles are generally only available from the vet (as they are used with a pet insulin) But you can use U100 needles with ProZinc IF you use the conversion chart, and then you can buy U100 needles at the drug store. (I don't think most states require a prescription.) Here is the conversion chart:

Here a thread of U100 needles with the kind to get and places to buy

Dani, it might be time for you to start posting on the PZI forum

http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewforum.php?f=24

Everyone there uses or has used your insulin and some use the U100 needles. It is much smaller than this forum, so if you have an emergency, it is wise to post both places. But it is the best place to get dose advice on your insulin. ( I post on both forums)
