Hi my 14 pound male black cat was diagnosed last March and put on prozinc he went into remission in dec 2012 steady at 150 for a couple of weeks so I quit testing and continued the fancy feast classics. He has the 5 p's and will jump across the room if you let him. Recently i've been keeping my ex-wifes schnauzer as I have two of them as well... All of my animal are on a wet diet hers is on a partial meaning she gets half hard, half soft....
So on to my concerns yoyo has been doing great the last few months up until recently, and for the most part still is. I did notice a behavioral change in him about a week ago and became concerned... Hard to describe it but I felt like he was losing backend strength again... He eats at 7am and generally 5 to 6 pm I just tested him at 3pm for the first time in 2 months and his BG was at 214. So my question is with him being 8 years old and weighing 14 pounds does this mean that he is coming out of remission? I have an appointment with the vet Monday for a complete workup.
Another thing is that he is insufferable about the fancy feast almost demanding if I slip on his times. He will also knock out 2 cans if I don't watch him. Hypothalamus issues maybe?
He looks and acts great purrs, preens, plays. When I hold him to two cans of FFa day he seems to do better but my older cat doesn't always get the chance to eat hers unless I quarantine him as he will take hers.
His water consumption is nil, his pee output seems normal and his stools are normal. He was on prozinc for 7 months and never regained full use of his back legs until he went into remission which I thought was weird.
This is my first post here but learned enough about diabetes lurking on these forums to switch him from hills diabetic hard food to FF and he went into remission within about 4 weeks.
I'm glad I checked his BG today the 214 concerns me. Is this a normal reading 7 hours after feeding for a diabetic cat? Ithink my sneaky boy may have gotten into some hard food last week that is my main concern. Can getting into hard food a couple of times be the issue and what should I be concerned about with his huge appetite?
I do home test but hate it, I'm high strung and a bundle of nerves even after all the times I have done it in the past
Any help would be appreciated
