Scrabble my diabetic cat loves his cat treats, just wondering if anyone knows how many carbs are in the treats he likes and if I should stop them all together? I have pretty much made the change to all wet food but I still give him a few treats now and then. I did buy the freeze dried chicken treats which he likes too. The kind of treats I am talking about are Purina Whisker Lickins Tender Moments chicken flavor. Thanks so much

Not sure how many carbs exactly, but I do know the pounce, whiskers, temptations all that stuff is just no good for cats.

Instead you could try freeze dried meats - like chicken - halo liv a littles, purebites,
or primebites - found in the dog food section at petsmart.

there is a whole list of other low carb acceptable treats you can provide, need to find that link.

Basically, you want anything that is just meat and nothing else. You can even go to an Asian market and get dried fish products, supermarket and baked, roast or boil chicken - I sometimes cheat and get a rotisserie and share it (making sure to not give them the skin or any flavorings).

You can treat your diabetic kitties but not with regular cat treats -- use zero-carb ones. HALO freeze-dried treats or Bonita flakes (Kitty Kaviar). Other healthy options are boiled chicken (or turkey) in small bite sized pieces

I give Shadoe only a few kinds of treats, I buy Pure Snacks there are 3 flavors: fish, chicken, or liver. They are 100% freeze dried only the one ingredient.
The other treat is just steamed chicken, or boiled chicken. All I do is get chicken breasts, steam them, then dice the chicken into tiny cubes. I do a big batch then put them into small 1cup containers and freeze them. I always have a small cup of chicken in the frig because she may want something to eat in the 2hrs before her shots and she can't be fed, so she settles for a few of the chicken cubes.

No idea but with these ingrdients Animal liver flavor, wheat flour, corn gluten meal, water, chicken by-product meal, wheat gluten,... I'm betting that the treats are really high in carbs just from those :-Q Many popular commercial brands of treats are too high in carbs from junky ingredients to be fed to a diabetic.

Here is a list of good low carb treats: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=445

Anything mentioning a grain (corn meal, wheat flour) should not be fed to a diabetic cat, just as you wouldn't give sugary treats to a diabetic human. Simple as that. But with the yummy zero-carb alternatives you've seen here, there's no reason to repeat your mistake.
