Cat sitter flaked - anyone in Denver that can help?

Hi,
I am set up for a business trip i have to take at the end of the week and had someone coming in to stay and give insulin, etc. Well, the cat sitter just flaked out. It was supposed to be 5 days but i now have it down to Thursday until midnight Saturday, or less. I had looked into boarding but with a newly diabetic (stable now) 16 year old I was afraid of the stress of boarding. Is there anyone in Denver interested in staying & keeping on the insulin protocol? if you are familiar with testing and giving shots it should be easy. I just need someone in the house so she doesn't stress. Since her sister litter mate died in Oct the empty house stresses her. I work from home too so she's used to someone here. I live a little north of DU if that helps. I'll pay well.

Am I thinking that boarding is worse than it is? She probably won't eat so I'd have her given half amount of insulin. No one there at night. I'd probably get small room rather than cage with all other cats. Just worried about stress level. I really think she came out of remission because I was away over Xmas & a few days late Jan with someone coming in 1/2 hour a day.

If I have to cut my trip to one day - out at 4:30 am & back at midnight, what would happen if she doesn't get insulin that day? She's on a 9 am/ 9 pm schedule.

Thanks again for help. This is pretty hard. To those who responded to my last post: thanks, and I am following all suggestions except for ketone check. I bought the strips but don't know how to get the urine to test. I can't imagine ladle working. Any other way?

Thanks again to everyone. I'm sure this will all calm down and become easier. . .

I would also post on Health. I only know one member in Denver and she, at the moment, has two really medically fragile kitties.

Have you asked at your vet's if there is a vet tech who might be willing to come over, test and shoot? They have the experience and usually aren't paid well so often are willing to take outside work.

If I lived close I would take care of her like my own. I don't know why some people have to be so shady.

You asked what would happen if she went 1 day with out insulin?
There is a way to tweak your schedule so it wouldn't be a full 24 hrs without insulin. Then when you get back slowly get back on the 9/9.
Tweaking the schedule would be like start shooting later in the day? So it could be you shot @ 4:30am when you leave then when you got back home you shot at 12am. Yes its 20 hrs, but only 8 hrs late instead of going the 24 hrs. That's just a idea. Someone with more experience could help you with tweaking.
I recently had to do something similar. I was a little high strung the whole evening I was away, but it all worked out well with the help of everyone here.

Good Luck I hope you have safe travels & you are able to travel with peace.

Much more traumatic --- for both of us, I think. I am also sharing a room and will be out of the hotel room from early am until late at night. I've never travelled on a plane, or rented a car, with her. What is that like? She is a big cat---15#. I'm not even sure she would fit under the seat!
thanks for the suggestion, though.

hey Sue, are you thinking of Jen and Oreo?

i sent messages to a couple other people i see that are in denver too. haven't sent one to jen in case she is the one with the sick kitties though.

i saw the thread on health first so directed them there in the messages i sent them. one is cjaubz. she is a long time member. another is randa & mookie. they post in the lantus forum. so keep an eye on that thread on health too just in case

oh that's right, marcy is in denver too. i'm not sure the latest status on klinger. last i knew he was doing pretty good and seemed to be getting some of his sight back. she has another sick kitty?

He is doing better. I think Radar was in the ER at the same time and is also doing better. Just figured she probably had her hands full.

Close, but not Denver. I thought of her earlier and PM'ed her. Unfortunately, too far.

Hello,
I'm sorry your cat sitter flaked. I've actually taken on another job, so the timing is an issue and I'm up taking care of Klinger at 3:45 am.
If you haven't found anyone yet, would you want to conisder having her stay at my house? I wouldn't be able to keep the 9-9 schedule with work though.
Marcy
