Cat not eating

Hi everyone, when I woke up this morning it was apparent my cat wasn't feeling well. He kept squatting like he needed to urinate or defecate, but with no success. And he vomited up his breakfast. I took him to the vet and after blood tests and xrays, it was determined that the cause was not his diabetes. They administered fluids and the hope is he will be able to defecate tonight. Problem is, my cat that is always hungry, won't touch his food.

My question is, I'm about an hour away from giving him his evening insulin shot. But if he isn't eating, do I still give it? He is on Lantus, 2 units twice a day.

Thank you in advance.

Has his blood or urine been checked for the presence of ketones?

I'm honestly not sure. I know they did blood work but we did not test his urine. His BG was in the 300s when they checked it today. It's currently in the 200s.

Do you have any recent BG data?please update the ss.
Does his breath smell sorta like nail polish remover?
Where are you located?
when was he diagnosed?

Do you have urine ketone test strips to test? Did they give you a copy of his labs? If so, check and see if they tested blood ketones.

If he has not peed, that worries me a lot more than not having a stool. Is he still straining to pee?

My concern is whether he could have a urinary blockage. I’m also concerned if he might have a urinary tract infection because with his BG so high, he could be developing ketones and potentially DKA.

Can you syringe feed him? He really needs insulin with numbers this high and unknown ketones.

Honestly, if he were mine and he wasn’t eating and still couldn’t pee, I’d be going to the ER.

@Mayo377 How is Max going?
Did you manage to get a copy of his labs?
Has he passed urine?
Did you give insulin?
Is he eating at all now?
Can you let us know how things are please, as we are concerned.

The X-rays didn’t show he was constipated? how can they say there’s no uti without a urine sample? If it’s a urethral blockage they can turn serious quickly. It is strange to me that he’s clearly struggling with a bathroom issue yet they don’t check the most obvious thing which is his urine. I’d get a second opinion today.

His numbers are so high I’d go ahead and shoot him anyway. If your really worried he’d go low cut the dose in half and give 1-1.5. No food +infection is a recipe for ketones.

so did they do anything? Give antibiotics? Anything?

Are you seeing recent numbers somewhere?

I can only see three days of numbers dated November.....
