What do you guys use for cat litter?

At one point I was using clay, but I realized it made me extremely more difficult to clean with the sticky urine.

I switched the pellets. I think Blue Buffalo is the brand. Anyway, curious as to which litter you guys find best suited for our felines with diabetes.
 
Okocat natural wood clumping litter is wonderful! I absolutely love it. I had previously used clay litters and was a little scared to try wood, but I am so glad I did. It clumps very well, has excellent odor control and is so much safer for my babies. I recommended it to my sister who was having issues with wet clay litter sticking to her cat's behind and hardening. She switched, and that issue has been resolved.
 
How is Okocat for tracking? I've been using smartcat which is great for clumping and odor control, and there is zero dust, but it tracks everywhere.

I would say it is comparable to the clay. There is a little tracking but most stays on the mat I have the litter box on. I like that I can sweep it off the litter mat due to the larger 'flakes' rather than having to pull out the vacuum or take up the mat and beat it out. When some does show up elsewhere in the house, it is easier to see and clean up than clay, and if you happen to step on it, it does not hurt. :)

Added bonus... Willow has asthma as well as upper respiratory issues. I saw a marked improvement when I switched to Okocat.

I have done both. If you enter your zip code, you can find out if there are any stores in your area that carry it: https://www.healthy-pet.com/retail-locations?tid=4 There are not many in my area, and they seem to have trouble keeping it in stock, so sometimes ordering from Chewy is my only option. They have sales on it.

If you are going to buy it in a store, you may be able to find a $3 coupon on line. If you sign up on the manufacturers site, they will send you one. In a couple of cases, I found $3 coupons on the boxes in the store.
 
I switched back to clay recently, as Gracie is in remission. WORST mistake ever!

Makes me think it just really has sucked the whole time, and I was oblivious. OR she has sugar in her urine again.

i LOVEeeee grass seed clumping litter and so do all my cats, best i have ever use by far! i like sophresh brand (petco) the best but, smartcat is great as well. clumps awesome, no cement scraping off boxes needed, no fragrant scent and no dust. a bit on pricey side but, 20lbs is like 60lbs of clay and we use so much less of it! downfall it tracks everywhere even with honeycomb mats around boxes!! still i love it anyways. try the chewy frisco brand, it is 50% off on your first bag.. oh and you may have to add some of your current litter with it at first for some cats like to eat it when freshly out of bag.
 
I have learned to put old newspapers around my litter box. I'm sure it looks horrible, but I don't care. Don't look! hahaha. This minimizes tracking. I have to change it frequently though, as Gracie tends to mess it up.

The only reason I switched back to clay was to help me monitor her diabetes, as her urine clumps were HUGE. I think I'm going to use what I have and switch back to pellets or Okocat.
 
I use pine pellets. Absolutely NO tracking. No need to scoop out clumps. Just empty solids and change once a week. The pellets are dry sawdust when used so no mess or stickiness. I put a puppy pad under each one as my civvie tends to stick her butt out the side.
 
Shoot. Maybe I was doing it wrong. I would try to scoop out what I could 2x a day and then dump the pellets every week and a half.

Ok, break this down for me. You put a puppy pee pad in the litter box prior to dumping pellets? how big of a bag do you buy of pellets? and Do you put as much pellets in as you would clay litter?

I buy a 40lb bag every two weeks. I put half the bag split into two litter boxes (10lb in each roughly) so it’s about maybe two inches deep? Maybe three. I don’t do anything else except scoop out the poop (immediately they do it). No scooping out of anything else. You know it needs changing when there is more sawdust than pellets. The pellets turn to dry sawdust when peed on.

The puppy pad outside the tray as sometimes they miss and I don’t want pee on my hardwood floor.

I empty out the entire litter tray once a week and replace with fresh pellets. I love that there is no tracking at all and I don’t have to scoop clumps every day as my back hurts.

Yup. I was doing it wrong. Not overly wrong, but I made my life a little more difficult.

Just ordered more pellets!
 
The clumps are not heavy with Okocat. It clumps so well and does not stick to the box like with clay, so I do not mind scooping it at all. For me, it would be more of a pain to have to empty the boxes every week. I get to go weeks between emptying out the boxes. I guess each person has their preferences. :)
