cat litter made from grains

I am trying to find a natural cat litter to use but most of the ones people seem to like are made from grains like corn or wheat. We tried one made from newspaper (Yesterday's News) one time but my cats didn't like it.

Has anyone had any issues with their diabetic cats and litters made with grains?

Any suggestions for a natural litter that has only a little dust?

Thanks in advance.

I used World's Best (corn) and Feline Pine (clumping, not the pellets) with Bob. He and I liked them a lot.
The only problem I can remember reading about here is a caregiver who was trying to figure out why her cat's BGs started climbing for no apparent reason. She discovered her cat decided he liked the taste of the corn based litter and it was causing his numbers to go up.
I found WB and FP litter to not have issues with dust, odor or tracking. I have also tried Swheat Scoop and found it to not control odor well, and seemed to stick to their feet.
After Bob went OTJ and wasn't peeing buckets, I used Tidy Cat Pure Nature. Clumps great but also tracks outside the box. Cedar, pine and corn based. Weighs next to nothing.

Polly is easy. She prefers tidy cat clay scoopable which is lots cheaper.

Thanks for replying. I have been using Scoop Away which has been good for odor but the dust is horrible and so is the tracking. Also when they get a lot stuck on their feet, i worry about them ingesting it. I have allergies so it has been tough on me for years but I didn't want odor since I have four cats. One of my cats sneezes a lot so she may be allergic too. When looking for one with less dust, I began reading about litter and saw where they have a lot of chemicals and carcinogens. That is when I started looking for natural litters. Since the dust is hard on me, I figured that the chemicals would be even worse for them as they dig in the box. I finally decided to try Nature's miracle last week but today it hit me that the grain (corn) may be a problem for my sugar cat. He has been back on insulin since October but is not regulated yet. Now I have to worry about the grains in litter affecting him. I appreciate your information. More to consider...

I tried a lot of these but tracking was horrible for me. Billy has long hair between his toes. I even tried one made from ground walnut shells but he had brown feet and there was a brown spot where he slept :). This might not be a problem if you have a short hair cat.

I wouldn't fret too much about the grain content. Unless he eats the litter like the other lady's cat did! If it stuck to paws and it was ingested when cleaning his feet, I don't think the quantity is going to mess up the numbers badly.

Thanks! I bet that was an issue.Mine are short to medium hair cats-all tuxedo. One sugar, one crystal, one sneezy, and one grumpy.

That makes me feel better. I will keep an eye on what he does. Usually he is in and out quickly. Hopefully he won't decide to eat any especially since there are four using all the boxes. Busy! Busy!

I use safflower seeds. They are non absorbent. I have the whole system from smart cat box.

there is very little dust. It flushes easily. And I've even rinsed it and re-used it but now I have such a big supply of it that I haven't been doing that.
Shadow seems to like it much more than all the others. She even has a regular cat box sitting right next to it filled with the pine pellets and she always goes to the safflower.

Never heard of that. Thanks.

Might have been me Carl was thinking of, though Neko's a girl. Neko's loves corn. Worlds Best Litter was like a giant dinner plate. I now use the Blue Buffalo Naturally Fresh walnut shell based litter. It behaves like Worlds Best but is dark and not so tasty. The other down side to grain based litters is if the box is anywhere near where mice can get to.

My civie picked up a sinus infection using Arm & Hammer wheat kitty litter, it took him several months to kick it even after I switched back to normal low dust clay litter.

Mice! Good grief! Although i would be horrified, my four would love that. They love anything that moves.

I think someone who has had a sugar cat and a crystal cat should develop the "purrfect" litter.
