Hello all,

Our diabetic cat has neuropathy in his hind legs and when he pees in the litter box he ends up peeing on his hind paws because he cannot support his weight. The litter clumps in his paws and he needs to be cleaned each time he goes. Does anyone else have this problem and if so what are some things you found that help with this issue? We would like to find a way to prevent him from peeing on himself each time. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Dave and welcome to the forum
Diabetic neuropathy is quite common in diabetic cats, especially the ones who are unregulated. The trick will be to get your kitty into more normal numbers and this will help the neuropathy.
Another thing you can do is buy some methylB 12 tablets which will help. Zobaline from lifelink.com has them. They can’t be got from the vet.
I will also tag @Diane Tyler's Mom as she knows other sources for the methyl B12.
So until you can get the BG numbers into more normal numbers your kitty will most likely continue to have the LB issues. My Sheba had neuropathy quite badly and had trouble walking and had to keep stopping to rest. I was able to get her into better numbers and I gave her Zobaline and she returned to normal over about 6 months.
How long has your kitty been a diabetic?
What insulin are you using?
Ae you hometesting the blood glucose so you can see how effective the insulin is?
What foods are you feeding?

He has been diabetic for about 8 years now. We currently use prozinc for insulin we do a glucose curve every few months to make sure his levels are in check and we feed him glycolbalance from royal canin.

I think we could help you to get your kitty (name?) into better numbers and deal with this neuropathy.
Would you be willing to start doing some hometesting of the blood glucose?
Is the glycobalance wet or dry food?
Also I think we could get him onto a lower carb food which will also help. But you would need to be monitoring the blood glucose before you changed the food as feeding a lower carb food can lower the blood glucose quite a bit.
Let me know what you think?

Hi Dave
The Zobaline is expensive for 60 pills, 30.00 some other places want 33.00
I used to use the Zobaline when I joined, then a member told me about the Vitacost brand . The only difference between the 2 is that the Zobaline has 200 MCG of folic acid. If you want you can buy any brand of folic acid , if you can only find 400 MCG then cut them in half and crush them up .
Some members didn't even add the folic acid and it still helped

It's a capsule just open it and sprinkle it on the wet food food, it's tasteless
Vitacost. 14.49 for 100 capsules
Just sprinkle it on the wet food always add water to the wet food
One per day
