kitty's glucose numbers are all still all over the place after 45 days, and i'm sure his bad teeth are a big factor.
the only cat dentist around here has the price of $100 per tooth extraction, but I can't afford it since I have already spent close to $1000 in the last 2 months on vet bills.
any advice?

That price is about normal for most teeth. Actually, it is less than what I paid from Thunder's teeth extractions about three weeks ago. Teeth like the canines and premolars requires a lot of work to extract and that costs money. I paid about $600 for four major extractions.

If the teeth are infected the only option is getting them removed - bacteria from the tooth infection gets into a cats system and can cause problems with the heart (and other organs). Their isn't really any lower cost alternative unfortunately. Some vets participate in a program called Care Credit which I think has a low fixed payback rate that makes it an option for some or ask if they have a medical fund that you can apply for assistance with the bill. I've been through 4 dentals with my cats (I'm still paying off the one from last year), and they aren't cheap. Depending on the number of extractions, they've run me between $500-$800. If there are infected teeth, Jan is right that the only thing you can do is to get them removed. I could not get Bandit regulated until I had all of his bad teeth pulled, and then like magic he became very well regulated within a week.

For his first dental, I got a loan from my credit union to pay for it. His second one, I used carecredit. If you think you can afford to pay it off within 6 months, use carecredit (it's no interest for 6 months). However, if you don't pay it off within 6 months all the interest is charged retroactively at about 27%. If you don't think you can pay it off within 6 months, I would go to your bank for a loan, because the overall interest will be lower.

If you are on the East Coast, your best bet may be Helping Hands in Richmond VA. They are an awesome low cost surgical/dental clinic that I have used many times for fosters and my own pets, including Danny. They are low cost but they are first rate -- they do everything to fight 'economic euthanasia' where pets suffer or die simply because the owner can't afford treatment. A dental is $155 for *everything* including extractions, meds, etc. Bloodwork is suggested at $43 for all cats but only required for those over age 7 or 9 (I forget which). These guys have been profiled on Good Morning America, etc. And the doc was honored by the Humane Society recently. Some people fly the pet there for treatment and still save a bundle.

That is crazy, Curt had all of his front and canine teeth pulled just recently, the rest cleaned plus antibiotics and anesthesia and overnight stay and his vet only charged me $350. :o
