Dr. Kate Meurs' cardiac genetics laboratory is still accepting samples from Bengal and Sphynx cats with and without hypertrophic cardiomyopathy diagnosed by a specialist. If you have either one of these breeds and have a pedigree (this information will be kept confidential) and an echocardiogram report, you can ask your vet to draw blood and participate in this important research study. She also needs canine participants for studies on Golden Retrievers, Newfoundlands, and Rottweilers so if you know any of those -! they can help too. If you have a Ragdoll or Maine Coon cat and want to test them for one of the genes responsible for the development of heart disease (HCM) in that breed, you can follow the above link for testing information.
