As some of you most likely know, Hugo does not take his shots well. He gets very upset, from grumbling to hissing and scratching. He hates even having his skin tented. His skin starts to roll and twitch and pull away. I'm suspecting that he might have hyperesthesia or OCD, as he has also started to groom himself aggressively.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for cat calming products that would be effective and safe for a diabetic cat? I was thinking about getting a Feliway diffuser, but I suspect it might be bunk.

Feliway works for a lot of cats, I have heard. but its very expensive. I have used Zen its much cheaper and it did work the one time I used it. Havent needed to use it again. GOOD LUCK

Feliway worked for me - Jess had a SERIOUS case of re-directed aggression when we moved in our new house. She'd see other cats outside and just loose it on poor Wesley, and I mean loose it, big time. Added a couple Feliway diffusers & worked pretty much right away if I remember correctly. I think I did two rounds of the diffusers and haven't had to use them since.

It was very unsettling at the time - one of those things we knew we couldn't let keep happening - it was that bad.

Jess & Wes had been together for 3 1/2 years with no problems & no fighting before this happened.

Wow then I would say its WELL WORTH the price!

I've found feliway to work also. I noticed a remarkable difference in behaviours of my cats towards new one after than before. I wish I'd got it at the start, because Mel and Ana still don't get along. Rhubarb is tolerant of her.
One thing I do to help save it, is to unplug it at night. The singies both sleep in bedrooms at night so it's pretty much wasted otherwise.

The feliway plugins didn't work for my anxious cats. Have several with behavioral issues: inappropriate peeing/pooping, aggressive, anxious...TWERPS. The feliway spray and the wipes sometimes work for IMMEDIATE calming. Tried CBD Oil and some other natural products..nothing works. So, I have to drug them with anxiety PROZAC and/or AMITRIPTYLINE. Wish there was something else out there that would help my kids besides drugging them with .

Feliway worked great here. Shop around on line, prices vary a lot! Another option is Rescue Remedy for Pets. It's drops you can add to their water or even food.

If Hugo is only fussy at shot time, I wonder if he's reacting to the acid base of Lantus. Typically cats get to higher doses before that becomes a problem, but I have seen it on some cats on smaller doses. Levemir is an option.

If anyone thinks you're exaggerating I know better. Border Collies are smart dogs, probably too smart and along with that can come serious neurological and behavioral issues. Ours developed a deep seated fear of loud noises, fireworks and thunder meant she would try and dig a hole behind the furnace to crawl into and die. Fireworks are legal here, I once pleaded with a neighbor to stop and when he laughed at me I punched him. The cops never did show up.
Once we convinced our vet how bad things were we put her on Valium and it saved her life. I get it.

We had a Blue Heeler, which you know are also real smart. Herding dogs all are, I think. All she had to do was "see" lightning, she knew thunder wasn't far behind...she would take off and jump into the bathtub. Prior to that she busted our closet door down. We ended up having to keep sedatives around and pay attention to approaching storms. Fireworks oh man...those were an extra dose of sedatives.

Every convenience store here is packed with fireworks for every long weekend. Kids shooting each other with Roman candles, fireworks displays in tiny back yards. I politely complained to the local police one time who refused to deal with it. I then said "So you're suggesting I deal with this myself?" After she blew a fuse I asked if the call was being recorded. "Good, then there'll be a record that you received this call and did nothing while the school burns down". CLICK!
I think I may be a person of interest in their system. Poor me. :blackeye:
