Hello Friends. This is really strange but today my son called me to say his cat Cooper only 5 years indoor cat. IS BLIND. He was ok yesterday. 3am he was not on the bed so she went looking for him and couldn`t find him. He showed up this morning they have 4 cats indoor and a dog. Had a sick baby on Sat so spend three days in hospital she got out yesterday . They took turns going home so things seems ok.Could this be stress related. Took him to vet today and everything is normal but his pupiles are dialated to where there is no color. Has anyone every heard of anything like this. Vet pretty sure it was not a stroke,he has no fever. Kath

Re: cat blind ???

Dud the vet take blood pressure readings? My senior cat went blind from hypertension/stroke. But as I mentioned, she was senior, age 18 at the time.

Re: cat blind ???

I also had a cat go blind due to high blood pressure. Do get it checked. She lived many more happy years with blood pressure medicine and compensated for the blindness.

Re: cat blind ???

Our Krinkle went blind from high blood pressure, she had detached retinas which made the eye look very dark and dialated. It happened very quickly and overnight and in the morning she was bumping into things. The eye fills with blood which is what make them look dark and dialated. It might be this? She was put on meds for the blood pressure and her eye color came back but she did not regain full sight in one eye and partial in the other. She was very happily blind however for 2 years after... this was all related to kidney renal failure/disease. I hope this helps and good luck xxx

Re: cat blind ???

i have had 2 cats in lifetime with similar experience ...one was elderly with a stroke (17 yo), and the other was od by anesthesiologist during spay (she was tiny) both did adapt very well <3

have heard of cats getting into antifreeze and such toxins that can effect liver function which in turn can cause blindness

i saw some pupil response in the od after liver cleanse treatment (dandelion root, burdock root, milk thistle seed) over a couple of months...but that was decades ago, she is GA now...

be well! best wishes, leslie bean

Re: cat blind ???

Everything that I have read says the antifreeze poisoning in cats (and dogs) causes kidney failure and not really liver of blindness. See:
