My cat sadly came out of remission and is now back on lantus. First time around, I was able to get her off lantus after a month, but I am not having much luck this time. She now has kidney disease and hyper-thyroidism so I'm sure that is not helping. I do have a couple of questions. Her numbers keep swinging around and I'm wondering if her kidneys and hyper-thyroid are making it worse? The other question I have is I am wondering if someone could suggest a Lantus spread sheet that I could look at so I can fully understandy what a 'typical' cat's numbers would look like when using Lantus. I'm having a hard time understanding when numbers typically peak and go low in relation to having a shot.

My cat was not able to tolerate medicine for her hyperthyroid, so she is not on any other medication. She is receiving 1 U Lantus morning and night. Her numbers have swung from 50 to 500.

The information on this forum is fabulous. When I think of what my vet did NOT tell me and what I have learned here is incredible. I thank everyone for their advice and suggestions.

Re: Spread Sheet Advice

I wish I had something useful to give you, but all I can suggest is to change your Subject to something more catchy.
Cat back on Lantus with kidney and thyroid problems

Then you can catch the eyes of people with experience in those 3 areas, Lantus, kidney issues, and thyroid issues.

Also if you can add some info about the health issues and any meds and doses you are giving right now.... it will help others give some options or alternatives.

What sort of BG numbers are you getting and what dose of Lantus.

A typical lantus spreadsheet? I am not sure if there IS such a thing... every cat is diff.
if you could put the numbers you have into a ss, then others can let you know if the numbers you are seeing are normal or not.

I have experience with kidney issues, but not hyper-thyroid. What are you feeding? If you're feeding a prescription kidney diet, unless she's in the end stage you do have lower carb commercial options that will help with both the diabetes and the kidney disease.
